Deion Sanders Responds to Eagles’ Draft Interest in Shedeur Sanders

What an exciting win it was for the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3 against the Los Angeles Rams. After many questioned Jalen Hurts as a quarterback, despite winning every step of the way throughout his career and proving that he’s one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL, he continued to prove everybody wrong on Sunday.

For the Eagles, they have their franchise quarterback, and the only thing the team will be looking for at the position moving forward, barring something drastic happening, will be a backup quarterback.

According to NFL legend Deion Sanders, the father of Colorado standout and current Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders, Philadelphia attempted to draft his son. Sanders revealed this when speaking with former Eagles fan-favorite Jason Kelce.

“How in the world, they made a big deal out of — Philly called us on draft day,” Sanders told Travis and Jason Kelce. “Uh, they didn’t mention that, huh? I just let the cat out of the bag. Philly called.”

“No, it’s good. I didn’t know that,” the retired center said.

Did the Eagles Have Competition for Shedeur Sanders?

There are several reasons why the Philadelphia Eagles and Sanders were both correct in allowing him to be drafted by the Cleveland Browns.

According to Deion, the Baltimore Ravens also made a call.

However, he admitted that there wasn’t much of a reason for him to consider Baltimore, as his son would be behind one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. While Lamar Jackson and Hurts are a bit different in terms of talent, there’s no debate that Hurts has a guaranteed job in Philadelphia for a very long time.

For that reason alone, it made plenty of sense to have his son not get drafted by those other teams if there were any conversations.

“Baltimore [called] and the Browns,” Sanders continued. “They forget, I played for Baltimore, so [we’re cool]. So we understood that whole conversation, and he wanted to talk to Shedeur as well, he wanted to talk to me. And I put Shedeur on the phone and Shedeur — I don’t want to say how it went.

“But how in the world can somebody fault him for saying or thinking, ‘Why in the world would I go back up Lamar [Jackson] for 10 more years? Who comes in with that mindset?”

Will Shedeur Sanders Play for the Browns?

Regarding what his future looks like, despite not playing for the Philadelphia Eagles, Sanders said that he believes his son will get a chance sometime in the near future.

The Cleveland Browns got a massive win on Sunday against an excellent Green Bay Packers team, with Joe Flacco under center. However, Flacco isn’t exactly the perfect option, whether it be due to his age and other factors, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens there.

“But I’m like, ‘Son, you gotta be ready when it’s time. But when it’s time, you gonna know and it’s coming up,’” Sanders said. “I got a prediction, but I’m not telling anybody. I got a feeling when it’s gonna go down. But it’s gonna go down and he’s gonna get a shot.”

Only time will tell if Deion knows something that others don’t.
