Dexter Lawrence Goes Scorched Earth on Giants Legend Carl Banks for ‘Delusional’ Comments

The New York Giants have enough on their plate right now without infighting.

Dexter Lawrence, New York’s Pro Bowl defensive tackle, took some shots from franchise legend Carl Banks earlier in the week when the nine-year Giant called out “Sexy Dexy” for not having as big an impact defensively as years past.

Banks claimed that Lawrence is losing the respect he once had around the league after recovering from an elbow injury suffered late last year.

There is some merit to what Banks is saying. Lawrence is having a down year in terms of statistical output than his previous All-Pro seasons.

But to deliver those remarks over a podcast is what has gotten Lawrence riled up.

“Those are strong words. If that’s how he feels? [Expletive] it,” he said via SNY’s Connor Hughes.

Carl Banks Unloads on Dexter Lawrence

After the New York Giants suffered a 38-20 defeat at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles, Banks and partner Bob Papa recorded an episode of their Bleav in Giants podcast.

That’s when Banks delivered his scathing review of Lawrence’s 2025 season.

“Dexter Lawrence, nobody respects you anymore. Nobody.”

“Your opponents do not — the pre-injury Dexter is not there in their heads. They don’t respect you. And there’s a difference. You’re on the field, they’re blocking you with a [five]-year backup center. You’re not making a difference. The old Dexter would,” Banks proclaimed.

“There are a lot of things that go into your performance, only you know what that is. Whether you’re still recovering or not, I’m just telling you now, I’m looking at enough tape to know that your opponents don’t respect you, not like they used to.”

The Eagles’ starting center, Cam Jurgens, missed Sunday’s game with an injury, and 29-year-old backup Brett Toth filled in.

Lawrence was unable to capitalize on Philadelphia’s banged-up offensive line.

The former Clemson product is, in fact, having a down year.

Through eight games, he’s only recorded half a sack, compared to the nine he had in 12 games last year before missing the remainder of the season with an elbow injury.

It’s possible Lawrence is still ramping up from the rehab, as he missed most of the offseason program recovering.

But we’re halfway through the NFL season, and the former All-Pro has yet to make a mark like Giants fans are used to.

Dexter Lawrence Fires Back at Carl Banks

Lawrence met with the media today for the first time since Banks’ comments made the rounds on the internet, and it’s safe to say he didn’t hold back on the New York Giants legend.

“I don’t know what he is watching … I hope people start to disrespect me,” Lawrence said via Hughes.

“He’s delusional.”

Lawrence’s frustrations are warranted, as Banks’ status within the Giants organization, a two-time Super Bowl champion, likely would’ve allowed him to speak with the All-Pro in person, rather than share comments over a podcast.

What can’t be denied is that Lawrence’s production is down, even with the emergence of Brian Burns as a sack leader in 2025.

One could make the case that Lawrence’s presence is allowing players like Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and Abdul Carter to get one-on-one matchups, but for one of the NFL’s highest-paid interior defensive linemen, it just isn’t good enough right now.
