Dodgers Give Unexpected Injury Update on Tanner Scott

The Los Angeles Dodgers were dealt a surprise blow ahead of Game 4 of the NLDS.

As Sports Illustrated reported, Major League Baseball announced that the team has removed left-handed reliever Tanner Scott from their postseason roster due to injury, replacing him with Justin Wrobleski.

“Today MLB has approved a roster substitution due to an injury to Dodgers pitcher Tanner Scott, who will be replaced by Justin Wrobleski for the remainder of their NLDS vs. the Phillies,” MLB Communications said in a statement on Thursday. “By rule, Scott will be ineligible for the NLCS should the Dodgers qualify.”

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts revealed after the announcement that Scott underwent a minor lower-body procedure on Wednesday night.

“It was an abscess excision, some kind of lower body minor procedure,” Roberts said. “I don’t know a lot about it, but I know he’s recovering well and it took place last night.”

Scott’s Strange Situation

The situation was especially strange given the timing.

Last night, after the Game 3 loss to the Phillies, Dave Roberts told reporters that Scott was unavailable due to “personal reasons,” without offering further detail.

Less than 24 hours later, the team revealed that the left-hander had actually undergone a medical procedure, catching many fans off guard and leaving many around the league confused by the situation.

Roberts added that the signs of discomfort appeared during the team’s evening workout before the procedure was performed. While Scott is now ruled out for both the NLDS and NLCS, Roberts didn’t rule out a potential World Series return if Los Angeles advances.

“There were signs the evening of the workout,” Roberts said. “He’s doing well now and should be fine moving forward.”

Tanner Scott’s Struggles in 2025

Scott entered the year with high expectations after the Dodgers signed him to a four-year, $72 million contract in the offseason.

Scott has majorly underperformed as he finished the regular season with a 4.62 ERA and 10 blown saves.

His poor performance led to significant frustration among fans, with some questioning his ability to perform in high-leverage situations during the playoffs.

Those same concerns appeared to extend to manager Dave Roberts, as Scott’s control issues and inconsistency pushed him out of recent late-inning situations.

He had yet to make a single appearance this postseason before Thursday’s injury update.

The Dodgers currently lead the Phillies 2-1 in the series, with Game 4 of the NLDS set for this afternoon at 3:08 p.m. PST.
