Eagles’ Super Bowl Champion QB Named Sleeper for Philly to Cut Ties With Via Trade

The Philadelphia Eagles continue to garner speculation that the team could move on from one of the team’s quarterbacks amid interest around the NFL. There has been plenty of drama surrounding Jalen Hurts and A.J. Brown amid an offseason full of rumors about things being less than ideal in Philly.

The Eagles also face a decision about backup quarterback Tanner McKee after acquiring veteran Andy Dalton. Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay labeled McKee as a sleeper candidate to be traded during the upcoming NFL draft.

“With McKee entering the final year of his rookie deal, Philadelphia’s brass is running out of options,” Kay wrote in a May 31, 2026, story titled, “5 Under-the-Radar Candidates to be Traded During 2026 NFL Draft.” “The Eagles either need to find a way to offer an extension to a player who has started just two games in three seasons or, and this is the far more likely scenario, execute a trade with one of the many QB-hungry teams who have expressed interest in the 2023 sixth-rounder.

“… Trading for him won’t be simple, either, with reports emerging that Philadelphia has a high asking price for McKee’s services. According to NJ.com’s Cayden Steele, the Eagles are waiting for an offer that ‘blows them away,’ with a Day 2 pick being a potential starting point. ESPN’s Rich Cimini revealed that the Eagles have told inquiring parties that it will cost a second-rounder to pry McKee away.”

Here’s what you need to know about the latest Eagles rumors.

Eagles Rumors: Philly Could Land a Day 2 Draft Pick in Trade for Tanner McKee

McKee has plenty of promise but is also a relatively unknown given his limited NFL experience. The Eagles could land a mid-round pick for McKee via trade, per Kay.

“If a team gets desperate during the upcoming NFL draft, it wouldn’t be a complete shock to see McKee get moved for a conditional Day 2 pick,” Kay added.

Eagles QB Tanner McKee Has Only Played in 6 NFL Games

As a reminder, the Eagles selected McKee in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL draft. If Philly is able to net a Day 2 pick, the Eagles would have gained a bit of draft capital on their investment.

McKee’s trade value is challenging to assess given his limited resume. The signal-caller has only played in six NFL games, including two starts. The signal-caller won a Super Bowl with the Eagles during the 2024 season.

The Eagles quarterback is heading into the final season of a four-year, $4 million rookie contract. NFL teams likely need to look back to McKee’s college football career at Stanford for more evaluation data.

The quarterback threw for 2,947 yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 62% of his passes during 12 appearances in 2022.

Eagles News: Philly Is Seeking a 2nd-Round Pick in a Trade for QB Tanner McKee, Says Insider

So, what is the Eagles’ asking price to part ways with McKee? ESPN’s Rich Cimini indicated Philadelphia is telling teams that it will take a second-round pick to land McKee.

“One team that was specifically linked to McKee early on this offseason was the New York Jets, who were in need of a starting quarterback,” Sports Illustrated’s Patrick McAvoy detailed in a March 20, story titled, “Eagles Wild Tanner McKee Asking Price Revealed.”

“Since then, the Jets have acquired Geno Smith from the Las Vegas Raiders. While breaking down the Jets’ quarterback search, ESPN’s Rich Cimini reported that New York called about McKee, along with Davis Mills and Mac Jones, but all three teams were looking for second-round picks in return for their signal-callers.”
