Ex-Jets QB Traded to Bengals in Sudden Desperation Move

A former New York Jets quarterback is on the move.

The Cleveland Browns traded former starting quarterback Joe Flacco and a sixth-round pick to the Cincinnati Bengals for a fifth-round pick, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter shared on social media.

Earlier on Tuesday, October 7, the Bengals moved on from another former Jets QB in Mike White, dumping him from the practice squad.

Brian Costello of the New York Post reacted to all the news, saying, “The Bengals cut Mike White and traded for Joe Flacco. It always comes back to the Jets.

Interestingly, within the span of a day, the Bengals made three roster transactions in a matter of hours involving former Jets quarterbacks.

They cut White from the practice squad, traded for Flacco, and had to dump Brett Rypien from the active roster to open up the spot for Flacco.

Cincy Is Desperately Searching for QB Answers

Joe Burrow is out for the foreseeable future due to injury. The Bengals initially turned to Jake Browning to save them, and it has been an epic disaster.

Browning is 0-3 as a starter this season. During that stretch, Cincinnati has been outscored 113 to 37. He has thrown eight interceptions, which is the second most in the NFL this season, per ESPN. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter revealed that the Bengals “would like their new QB Joe Flacco to be ready to play Sunday at Green Bay vs. the Packers. The veteran Flacco is expected to be a quick learner.”

Flacco Trade Is Getting Mixed Results on Social Media

“A team giving anything up for Joe Flacco in October 2025 is disgraceful,” Irish NFL analyst Sam Monson reacted.

“Here’s the thing: Every chance you have to get into the playoffs with someone like Joe Burrow at quarterback is gold. And so if Joe Flacco gives Cincinnati a shot to sneak into a depleted AFC bracket with Burrow back in the saddle, then the price here is steal,” NFL Insider Albert Breer explained on X previously Twitter.

NFL Insider Dianna Russini of The Athletic revealed that, “The Bengals internally discussed different options at QB. I’m told the team never called the Giants about trading for either Russell Wilson or Jameis Winston before making a move for veteran Joe Flacco.”

“Putting 40-year-old Joe Flacco behind that offensive line is full blown elder abuse,” NFL Memes joked on social media.

Jets Revenge Game Is Back on Course

Flacco started the season as the starting QB for Cleveland.

The Jets are scheduled to host the Browns in Week 10 at MetLife Stadium, coming off their bye week. However, this past week, Flacco was benched in favor of rookie Dillon Gabriel.

That seemingly canceled the potential revenge game against his old team, the Jets. However, destiny had other plans.

With Flacco now joining the Bengals as their immediate starting quarterback, the revenge game is back on; it’ll just come a little bit earlier.

In Week 8, the Jets will travel to Cincinnati to play the Bengals.

The green and white are 0-5 on the season and are the last winless team remaining in the NFL.
