Ex-Lakers Guard Arrested on Third-Degree Felony Charge: Report

Former Los Angeles Lakers guard Patrick Beverley is once again embroiled in controversy. According to TMZ Sports, the veteran NBA guard was arrested in Texas on a third-degree felony assault charge, stemming from allegations that he assaulted an unidentified family or household member and impeded their breath or circulation, a serious offense under Texas law.

Beverley reportedly posted a $40,000 bail and is expected to be released later Friday.

Beverley’s NBA Career Spanned Seven Teams, Including the Lakers

The 36-year-old guard played for seven NBA franchises, including the Lakers during the 2022–23 season, where he was traded mid-year in a four-team deal. He last appeared in the NBA with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2024, wrapping up a turbulent late-season stretch marked by confrontation and disciplinary actions.

Before his NBA hiatus, Beverley averaged 6.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 45 games with the Lakers, serving as a defensive specialist and veteran voice before being moved for Mo Bamba at the trade deadline.

Beverley’s Final NBA Game Included Altercation With Pacers Fans

Beverley has not appeared in an NBA game since May 2, 2024, when the Bucks lost to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference playoffs. In the final minutes of that game, Beverley became involved in a high-profile altercation with Pacers fans.

Video showed Beverley hitting a woman in the head with a basketball, asking another fan for the ball, then throwing it back forcefully into the stands. The incident sparked national attention and resulted in a four-game NBA suspension, which Beverley has not yet served, as well as a lawsuit filed by the Pacers fans.

The lawsuit accuses Beverley of causing “physical pain,” emotional distress, humiliation, and financial damages, including medical expenses and lost wages.

Short Stint Overseas Also Ended in Suspension

Unable to secure an NBA contract last offseason, Beverley signed with Hapoel Tel Aviv in the Israeli Basketball League. However, his tenure overseas was also cut short. The team suspended Beverley in February and later parted ways, capping another tumultuous chapter in his professional career.

Klay Thompson Recently Criticized Beverley Over Megan Thee Stallion Comments

Beverley’s arrest came amid another media firestorm involving his recent comments on Dallas Mavericks forward Klay Thompson and his girlfriend, rapper Megan Thee Stallion.

During a clip shared by the Hoopin’ N Hollerin’ Podcast on Instagram, Beverley and former NBA guard Jason Williams suggested Hardaway Jr.’s on-court struggles may be tied to his relationship with the Grammy-winning artist. Williams used the NSFW term “p***y” in describing the impact of women on athletes, prompting widespread backlash.

Thompson issued a strong rebuke.

“Referring to my GF as a ‘p*y’ is so disgusting and disturbing,”** Thompson wrote. “Especially from someone who played in the NBA. How would y’all feel if I referred to your wives in such a way? Do better, fellas.”

Legal Trouble Puts Beverley’s Future in Question

With an unresolved NBA suspension, a lawsuit pending from the Pacers altercation, and now a felony arrest, Beverley’s future in professional basketball is in serious jeopardy. The 12-year NBA veteran has not publicly commented on the arrest.
