Ex-Timberwolves Guard Clears Air Over Felony Arrest

Former Minnesota Timberwolves guard Patrick Beverley, a fan favorite during the team’s 2021–22 playoff run, publicly addressed his arrest in Texas on a third-degree felony assault charge, telling fans not to believe early online speculation.

Beverley posted a message on X shortly after posting a $40,000 bail, signaling his frustration with how the incident had been portrayed.

“Please don’t believe everything you see on the internet. Hope all is well Luv❤️🙏🏾,” Beverley wrote.

According to TMZ Sports, authorities allege that Beverley assaulted a family or household member and impeded their breathing, a serious charge under Texas law. The case remains under investigation, and no court date has been announced.

Attorney Says Beverley Was Protecting His Younger Sister

Beverley strongly disputed the charges, insisting that he acted out of concern for his younger sister.

“Patrick Beverley has no criminal record. He cares deeply about his little sister – a young lady, a minor,” Beverley said in a statement.  “When he unexpectedly found her alone in the home with an 18-year-old man in the middle of the night, he was understandably concerned, as any brother would be.”

The statement claims the events have been inaccurately described by authorities.

“We don’t believe what followed happened the way it’s been described and we look forward to addressing that in court,” the statement added.

Beverley’s 2021–22 Timberwolves Season Still Revered in Minnesota

Beverley averaged 9.2 points, 4.6 assists and 4.1 rebounds with the Timberwolves, and was instrumental in the Wolves’ Play-In Tournament win over the Los Angeles Clippers — a night Minnesota fans still recall as the “Pat Bev Game” for his emotional celebration and immediate cultural impact.

More importantly for Wolves fans, Beverley brought a fiery edge, vocal leadership, and defensive identity to a young roster anchored by Anthony Edwards, Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell. Players and fans praised his toughness, locker-room energy, and influence on the team’s competitive culture.

His exit — a trade to Utah in the Rudy Gobert deal before eventually landing with the Lakers — was widely viewed through the lens of Minnesota improving its core.

Arrest Adds to Ongoing Off-Court Controversies

Beverley’s arrest is the latest in a string of off-court incidents.

Beverley has not appeared in an NBA game since May 2, 2024, when the Bucks lost to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference playoffs. In the final minutes of that game, Beverley became involved in a high-profile altercation with Pacers fans.

Video showed Beverley hitting a woman in the head with a basketball, asking another fan for the ball, then throwing it back forcefully into the stands. The incident sparked national attention and resulted in a four-game NBA suspension, which Beverley has not yet served, as well as a lawsuit filed by the Pacers fans.

The lawsuit accuses Beverley of causing “physical pain,” emotional distress, humiliation, and financial damages, including medical expenses and lost wages.

His stint overseas with Hapoel Tel Aviv ended after team-issued discipline earlier this year.

Beverley, now 37, has not signed with an NBA team this season.

What’s Next for the Former Wolves Guard?

It remains unclear how the felony charge might affect any potential NBA return. Beverley maintains that the accusations have been misrepresented and insists that more accurate details will come out in court.
