Former Houston Rockets Guard Patrick Beverley Arrested in Texas

Former Houston Rockets guard Patrick Beverley was arrested in Texas on a third-degree felony assault charge, according to a report from TMZ Sports. Court documents allege Beverley assaulted an unidentified family or household member, including conduct that impeded the victim’s breath or circulation, a serious offense under state law.

Beverley, 37, posted a $40,000 bond and is expected to be released later Friday, TMZ reported.

The arrest immediately reignited discussion in Houston, where Beverley became a fan favorite during his four-plus seasons with the Rockets.

Beverley Was a Defensive Anchor During Rockets’ Tenure

Beverley played for the Rockets from 2013 to 2017, quickly earning a reputation as one of the NBA’s toughest perimeter defenders. He started alongside James Harden, helping Houston reach the Western Conference Finals in 2015. He also made the NBA All-Defensive First Team in 2017 before being traded to the Los Angeles Clippers as part of the blockbuster Chris Paul deal.

The guard averaged 9.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.1 steals during his Houston career and became known locally for his hard-nosed style, relentless motor, and emotional connection to Rockets fans.

Though Beverley went on to play for seven NBA franchises — including the Lakers, Timberwolves, 76ers, and Bucks — Houston is widely considered where he made his biggest mark.

Felony Arrest Adds to Beverley’s Recent Controversies

Beverley has not appeared in an NBA game since May 2, 2024, when he was with the Milwaukee Bucks during the postseason. That night ended in controversy when Beverley became involved in a heated altercation with Indiana Pacers fans, striking a woman in the head with a basketball and later throwing the ball at another fan.

The NBA suspended him for four games, a penalty he has not yet served. Meanwhile, the Pacers fans filed a civil lawsuit alleging “physical pain,” emotional trauma, humiliation, medical expenses, and lost wages.

After failing to secure a new NBA contract, Beverley signed with Hapoel Tel Aviv in the Israeli Basketball League. That stint also ended abruptly when the team suspended him in February and later cut ties.

Beverley Recently Criticized by Klay Thompson Over Viral Podcast Comments

The arrest comes just days after Dallas Mavericks star Klay Thompson publicly called out Beverley for comments made on the Hoopin’ N Hollerin’ Podcast. Beverley and former NBA player Jason Williams suggested that Thompson’s relationship with rapper Megan Thee Stallion was impacting his performance.

Thompson slammed both former guards for using NSFW language.

“Referring to my girlfriend as a ‘p*y’ is disgusting and disturbing,”** Thompson wrote on Instagram. “How would y’all feel if I referred to your wives that way? Do better.”

What’s Next for Patrick Beverley?

With a felony charge pending, a lawsuit unresolved, and an NBA suspension still in place, Beverley’s basketball future — whether in the United States or overseas — is now in serious jeopardy.

Beverley, who built his NBA identity in Houston with gritty defense and an underdog story, has not publicly commented on the arrest.
