The Jacksonville Jaguars are entering the 2025 campaign in a bit of a unique spot. The 2024 season was a massive disappointment for them, resulting in widespread changes over the offseason. Both sides of the ball have been revamped, with former Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen being hired as the team’s new head coach.
There’s certainly reason for optimism heading into the new year, as Jacksonville isn’t far removed from its surprise playoff run in 2022. Attention from the team was diverted recently, though, after one of their former running backs, T.J. Yeldon, ended up getting arrested on domestic violence charges.
T.J. Yeldon in Hot Water After Recent Arrest
The Jaguars had high hopes for Yeldon, as they selected him in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft with hopes that he could become their lead running back. He showcased his potential as a rookie, racking up 740 yards and two touchdowns on 182 carries, while also catching 36 passes for 279 yards and another score.
That ended up being Yeldon’s best season in the NFL, though, as he struggled to carve out a role with Jacksonville moving forward. It didn’t help his cause that the team selected Leonard Fournette with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, as that effectively ended any shot Yeldon had of becoming the team’s starting running back.
Yeldon would spend four seasons with the Jags before latching on with the Buffalo Bills for two years, but he hasn’t played in a game since 2020. If there was any hope of him making a miraculous comeback, it likely disappeared after his recent arrest, with records showing that Yeldon was arrested on three different charges.
“Timothy ‘TJ’ Yeldon, 31, of Daphne, was arrested on third-degree domestic violence, third-degree criminal mischief, and interference with a domestic violence emergency call, according to a Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office news release,” Thomas Boni and Debbie Williams wrote for WKRG News 5.
“The BCSO received an emergency phone call transfer from 911 around 1 a.m. Aug. 16, and ‘BCSO communication officers could hear what was believed to be a domestic violence offense occurring between a male and female,’ the release said.”
Jaguars Hoping to Put Together Bounce Back Campaign in 2025

Yeldon’s situation is unfortunate, and while he ended up being released on a $2,000 bond, his situation is far from over. His status will be worth keeping tabs on over the coming weeks, as charges could be pressed against him, which would lead to a slew of potential court dates and potential repercussions for his actions.
In the meantime, the Jaguars will be focused on getting themselves ready for the upcoming season. They have a slew of talented players leading the way, with star quarterback Trevor Lawrence hoping for a bounce-back campaign after enduring a slog of a campaign in 2024. It may take some time, but if everything comes together like Jacksonville is hoping it will, they could end up being a dark horse playoff contender in the AFC down the stretch of the regular season.
