The New England Patriots are working on rebuilding themselves after watching their dynasty crumble in the wake of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick‘s departure from the team. Both guys remain around football, with Brady working as a broadcaster for Fox and Belichick taking the North Carolina Tar Heels football job, and both have found themselves embroiled in controversy as of late.
For Brady, his controversy revolves around his minority ownership stake in the Las Vegas Raiders, which seemingly creates a conflict of interest with his broadcasting gig. When addressing the situation on Wednesday, Brady took a page out of his former head coach’s book by citing one of his most popular phrases from his time with the Patriots.
Tom Brady Cites Bill Belichick in Response to Raiders’ Criticism
The problem with Brady’s roles with both the Raiders and Fox is that it creates a conflict of interest. As part of his gig with Fox, Brady is privy to production meetings with coaches and players from the teams who are playing in the game he is working on every week. In theory, Brady could take the information he receives from these meetings and give it to the Raiders.
It’s also not as if Brady isn’t involved with Las Vegas, as his influence within the organization is reportedly growing at a quick rate. That was very clear when he popped up in the Raiders’ coaches’ booth during their Week 2 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, which is a big reason why fans are up in arms about his conflicting roles.
Brady has heard the chatter, and he recently took a second to address the criticisms he has faced from fans. In doing so, Brady cited Belichick’s “do your job” mantra that became a rally cry of sorts during the second half of the Patriots, which saw the team win three Super Bowl championships in a five-year stretch.
“At the Patriots, Bill Belichick had a saying that was at the core of his coaching philosophy: Do Your Job,” Brady wrote on his official website. “It became something of a mantra for us, because it was simple and effective.”
“It was our belief that only when a team has the right people, with the right values, who all do their job to the best of their abilities on a consistent basis (who fulfill their duty with integrity, in other words), will the team develop the kind of culture necessary to win consistently at a high level and to put ourselves in a position to reach for those improbable goals—Super Bowls, conference championships, a perfect season, things like that. It all comes down to doing your job.”

The NFL has stated that Brady hasn’t broken any rules with the Raiders or Fox, but it seems like fans are going to remain unhappy if he continues to get more and more involved with his new team. However, Brady is simply focusing on doing his job, both for Las Vegas and Fox, rather than focusing on the chatter that surrounds him currently.
As for the Patriots, their primary focus is on finding a way to get back on track after suffering a 21-14 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3, where they turned the ball over five times. New England will draw a matchup against the Carolina Panthers in Week 4, and they will be looking to earn their second win of the season when the game kicks off at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
