The Georgia Bulldogs are set to take on their counterpart “Bulldogs” when they hit the road on Saturday to square off against Mississippi State. Georgia is 7-1 this season, and 5-1 in Southeastern Conference (SEC) play.
Both Bulldog teams are coming off wins, as Georgia defeated Florida 24-20 in its last contest, and Mississippi State picked up a 38-35 victory over Arkansas. Some may say this game against Mississippi State has a trap game written all over it.
Georgia is dealing with a number of injuries on both sides of the ball. On Friday, the injury report was released, with many Bulldogs listed as “OUT” for the game already.
Who is Georgia Missing Against Mississippi State?

Well, to start, Georgia will be without defensive lineman Jordan Hall, as announced earlier this week, who will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury suffered against Florida.
Chauncey Bowens will play today after some fans were left worried when he didn’t receive a touch until late in the first half last game. Bowens has been dealing with a shoulder injury, but should be good to go for Saturday’s game. Bowens leads the Bulldogs with 446 rushing yards this season, and only Gunner Stockton has more rushing touchdowns than Bowens. Head coach Kirby Smart spoke to the media this week to clear the air that Bowens’ injury isn’t too serious.
As for the offensive scratches, wide receivers Colbie Young and Talyn Taylor are out, which is no surprise, as both wideouts are set to miss the remainder of the season. Tight end Ethan Barbour is also out.
There is more injury news on the defensive side of the ball. Linebacker Chris Cole suffered a knee injury against Florida, but he is “IN” for Saturday’s game, while Demello Jones is ruled as “questionable”, and safety Kyron Jones has been ruled out. Georgia’s secondary will be tested by Mississippi State, as they will be without KJ Bolden for the first half. Kyron Jones is thought to be out indefinitely, but Demello Jones has been a crucial piece to Georgia’s secondary.
What is Georgia’s Path to Victory?
Georgia’s defense will be tested in this game against Mississippi State, and Gunner Stockton will have to be the “do it all” quarterback once again if UGA is to pull it off. However, Mississippi State has struggled to stop the run, so Georgia’s running game should have no problem getting going. With the injuries to the wideouts, Stockton will continue to lead on Zachariah Branch, Noah Thomas, Oscar Dellp, and Lawson Luckie as his top receiving options.
As for the defense, getting pressure will be a challenge once again. The absence of Jordan Hall cannot be understated. Georgia has just eight sacks this season, and bringing down the quarterback has been an issue all season. If Georgia’s defense is unable to get pressure, it will put more pressure on the Dawgs’ secondary to hold up for longer periods of time in coverage, which is unsustainable. Every game is big in the SEC, but this can be a real “prove it” game for Georgia, to show that they can take care of an inferior opponent easily.
