Giannis Antetokounmpo Makes Honest Admission About Anthony Edwards

One of the best players in the world today is Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. “The Greek Freak” is a hard man to impress, but he sure made an honest admission about Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

In an interview with Harris Stavrou of Greek outlet Sport24 on September 23, Antetokounmpo discussed a variety of topics about the NBA and international basketball. He was talking about the preferences of basketball fans while also explaining the kind of player he likes, including “Ant-Man.”

“My preference has always been to see a player who will not only be a good player, but will also be an example for his teammates in behavior. It’s not enough to just score baskets. To be a leader, it also counts in the locker room how you are and on the bus, and when you eat as a team, how you are, how you behave. Anyway, whoever has the best year will be the best player. My preference is two-way players. I like one player, Anthony Edwards. I like him a lot,” Antetokounmpo said.

The two-time NBA MVP added Anthony Davis and Kawhi Leonard to his list because they play on both ends of the floor. He loves watching players that give 100% effort on the court no matter the circumstances.

Giannis Antetokounmpo and Anthony Edwards’ MVP Chances Revealed

Tim Bontemps of ESPN published a survey on September 22 regarding questions and predictions for the upcoming season. Bontemps asked 20 executives, coaches and scouts regarding their thoughts on the MVP, best players and more.

One of the questions was their choice for 2026 NBA MVP, with Nikola Jokic receiving the most votes with seven. “The Joker” narrowly edged out reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who had five votes. Other players to receive a nod include Luka Doncic, Victor Wembanyama, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Anthony Edwards.

Antetokounmpo and Edwards each received one vote, but the Minnesota Timberwolves star’s outlook is much better. Edwards came in second to Steph Curry as the “Best American Player Right Now” and was named the “Best American Player by 2030.”

Giannis’ Bucks received the “Most Surprising Move of the Offseason” due to Damian Lillard’s waive and stretch and prying away Myles Turner from the Indiana Pacers. Milwaukee went from possibly trading their greatest player to surrounding him with a good roster.

First International Medal for Giannis Antetokounmpo at EuroBasket

Entering the 2025 EuroBasket, Giannis Antetokounmpo only had one missing accomplishment in his trophy cabinet: an international medal. Antetokounmpo hasn’t brought glory back to Greece since becoming a full international player in 2014.

That all changed earlier this month when “The Greek Freak” led Greece to the bronze medal in the EuroBasket. They escaped the third-place game against Finland with a 92-89 victory to bring back Greece’s first international medal since a bronze in the 2009 EuroBasket.

Giannis was filled with emotions after the final buzzer sounded, as he got surrounded by his brothers Thanasis and Kostas, who also suited up for Greece. He even called it his greatest accomplishment as a player, while also putting a lot of emphasis on not diminishing the value of his NBA championship with the Milwaukee Bucks.
