Giants Get Big Update on Kicker Graham Gano Heading into Bears Game

The New York Giants may be 2-7, but there have been several encouraging developments for the team throughout the 2025 campaign. If it weren’t for injuries, chances are the Giants’ record would be significantly better than what it currently is. Heading into Week 10, though the team has another big injury situation it has to deal with involving kicker Graham Gano.

The veteran Gano is dealing with a neck injury that has once again forced the team to consider other options at kicker. Things went south with Jude McAtamney earlier this season when he was filling in for Gano, so with another potential absence on the horizon, that has led the team to turn to a former Pro Bowl kicker who got released by his longtime team earlier this year.

Giants Set to Turn to Younghoe Koo Amid Graham Gano’s Injury Absence

Gano has been the Giants’ kicker since 2020, but he’s struggled to stay on the field in recent seasons. Gano has only suited up for 23 total games over the past two-and-a-half seasons now, and he appears set to miss even more time now that he’s dealing with a neck injury that once again held him out of practice on Friday.

When Gano missed time earlier this season, New York turned to McAtamney. While he hit his only two field goal attempts in his four games with the team, he missed three extra point attempts, including two in a game against the Denver Broncos, where the Giants ended up losing by a score of 33-32.

The Giants have had former Atlanta Falcons kicker Younghoe Koo on their practice squad for a couple of weeks now after he was released earlier in the season, and it seems like he will get the next crack at filling in for Gano. With the 38-year-old kicker seemingly set to miss the team’s Week 10 action, head coach Brian Daboll revealed that he’s expecting Koo to be the team’s kicker on Sunday.

“K Graham Gano isn’t practicing Friday,” Jordan Raanan of ESPN shared in a post on X. “It looks like Younghoe Koo will kick Sunday against the Bears. ‘I would assume it’s going to be Koo,’ coach Brian Daboll said.”

Giants Hoping Younghoe Koo Can Step Up in Graham Gano’s Place

Koo lost his starting job to John Parker Romo after he missed a game-winning field goal against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1, and he quickly latched on with the Giants’ practice squad. Koo has been a solid kicker in the past, but his field goal percentage has been steadily declining over the past couple of years, which makes him a bit of a risky option for New York.

Beggars can’t be choosers, though, and Koo’s past success appears to have been enough for him to earn an opportunity with the Giants. In Week 10, New York will take on the Chicago Bears, and if the game comes down to the wire, Koo could end up playing a very important role in the outcome of the contest. Kickoff for this game is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon.
