Giants Rookie Cam Skattebo Carted Off Field After Gruesome Injury vs. Eagles

The New York Giants took a devastating blow Sunday when rookie running back Cam Skattebo went down with a serious ankle injury during the second quarter of their Week 8 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Skattebo caught a short pass from quarterback Jaxson Dart, but an Eagles defender twisted him to the ground. His right leg bent awkwardly underneath him. Both sidelines gasped, and FOX immediately chose not to air a replay, describing the injury as “too graphic to show.”

Medical staff rushed onto the field while teammates surrounded him, many of them visibly shaken. After several tense minutes, Skattebo climbed onto a cart with his right leg immobilized. Eagles players knelt and bowed their heads as he left the field.

“Here’s the entire Giants bench surrounding the injured Cam Skattebo, who looks to have suffered a serious foot/ankle injury,” wrote Connor Hughes of SNY on X (formerly Twitter). His post showed the entire New York sideline forming a circle around their fallen teammate—a rare and emotional sight that captured the gravity of the moment.

Season Likely Over for Fan-Favorite Rookie

The Giants haven’t released an official diagnosis, but early reports indicate it may be a season-ending injury.

The setback hits hard for a player who quickly became a fan favorite in New York. The 23-year-old rookie signed a four-year, $5.27 million contract after the draft and delivered a much-needed spark to the Giants’ offense. He ran with relentless energy and physicality, becoming a bright spot on a team fighting for stability.

Skattebo’s injury also came during a turbulent week. The NFL fined him twice—first $15,000 for entering the team’s medical tent to check on Dart after a head injury, and later $6,157 for unnecessary roughness in the Giants’ loss to the Denver Broncos.

Even after those punishments, Skattebo didn’t waver. “I don’t really have any comments on it. Just glad Jaxson’s healthy. That’s it,” he told reporters. His maturity and fire earned him instant respect inside the locker room.

Now, just days later, Dart and the rest of the Giants are returning that support, rallying around the injured rookie who had done so much to lift their spirits.

Giants Lose a Key Emotional Leader

For a Giants team already dealing with multiple injuries, losing Skattebo stings far beyond the box score. His intensity and leadership turned him into a locker-room favorite and a symbol of toughness for a roster still shaping its identity.

Players and coaches haven’t yet addressed his status publicly, but the sideline told the story. As trainers carted Skattebo away, teammates locked arms, several wiping tears. The entire scene reflected how much he means to this group.

The Giants now turn to their backup running backs to fill the on-field void, but replacing Skattebo’s heart and presence won’t come easily. His energy defined this offense and gave it life when few others could.

For now, all of New York holds its breath, hoping the rookie’s recovery matches the same fight and fearlessness he showed every time he carried the football.
