Golden State Warriors to Rely on 2 ‘A-Holes’ to Win Title

Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green don’t care about you. Even if they knew who you were, they probably wouldn’t care about you. The Golden State Warriors have 13 other players for them to worry about, and the NBA boasts about 450 players. That’s who Green and Butler are focused on.

Besides, the Warriors have a title to win this season, and Butler and Green will have to play massive roles on both sides of the ball to reach that goal. There are barely enough hours in the day for them to work out, get shots up, digest film, and allow their aging bodies to recover to care about anything aside from basketball.

Both of them are well aware of how they are perceived around the league and by fans. Again, neither of them cares. There are bigger fish to fry.

Jimmy Butler Reveals Do-All Mentality

The Warriors believe that Butler is the player who will get them their fifth title in recent years. Based on how he elevated them last season, it’s clear that they’re right about his floor-raising prowess.

Green has been doing the dirty work in Golden State since 2012. Since then, he’s emerged as Stephen Curry’s greatest sidekick, a position he relishes.

This season, teams will have to reckon with both Green and Butler.

We’re cut from the same cloth in the way that we grew up, the way that nothing was given to us,” Butler told NBC on October 12, before listing all the things he and Green can do. “You want us to score? Okay. You want us to pass? Okay. You want us to guard? Want us to get some steals? You want us to get some offensive rebounds? Name it. We can do it.”

Butler is known as one of the league’s best competitors. Green is on the same level, although he has the hardware to argue that his brand of fire works. Butler, meanwhile, is searching for his first ring.

Next to Green, he thinks he can win it.

Warriors to Rely on ‘Fierce Competitors’

The Warriors are very much Curry’s team. No one in their right mind, including his co-stars, would argue against that.

Green has built a Hall-of-Fame career on doing what Curry needs him to do, regardless of how unglamorous it is.

Butler doesn’t mind doing the dirty work, but this will be his first time as a true second option since breaking out.

“We’re both supposed to be a-holes, but that’s not what it is,” Butler added. “We’re just fierce competitors who want to win. I just haven’t won at the level that he’s won at, but we’re just fierce competitors that want to win.”

If Butler can continue to bring his patented intensity on both ends of the floor, the only thing standing in the Warriors’ way this year is their own health.
