‘He’s Back to Double Chin’: Popular Analyst Rips Lakers’ Luka Doncic For Being Overweight

Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic will miss Monday’s game against the Washington Wizards after being handed a one-game suspension for his 16th technical foul of the 2025-26 season.

The latest tech came in Friday’s 116-99 win over Brooklyn following a brief skirmish with Nets forward Ziaire Williams.

It will be a big blow for the Lakers, who are 14-2 in their last 16 games. And Doncic has been in front of it.

But that suspension isn’t the only headline making rounds for their Slovenian superstar.

His physical conditioning has been dug up again, this time from popular analyst Skip Bayless. This is despite the Lakers’ strong push for a No. 3 finish in the Western Conference and Doncic being in the race for the MVP award.

Bayless’ blunt assessment of Los Angeles Lakers star’s physique

Bayless zeroed in on what he sees as a lack of commitment by Doncic off the court, and he compares it to that of Doncic’s Lakers teammate.

“He obviously doesn’t watch carefully what he eats,” he said of the 27-year-old L.A. star. “He’s not LeBron [James], LeBron pays the price. I don’t think Luka will last nearly as long as LeBron because it’s pretty clear he doesn’t pay the price,”

This latest take comes from speculations that Doncic appears heavier than he was during his leaner stretches this season. Bayless argues that no amount of numbers he is putting up now will be sufficient to stop the physical toll of carrying extra weight which could in turn shorten his prime.

The criticisms land at an awkward time, not just with the Lakers’ form, but Doncic has been one of the best players in the past month.

He is averaging 37.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 7.1 assists in March alone and has surged all the way to No. 2 in the MVP ladder before slipping down to No. 4 in the last week.

Conditioning questions continue to follow Doncic

Doncic has faced criticisms over his condition right from his time with the Dallas Mavericks even through last season when the Lakers traded for him.

He was rumored to have weighed close to 270 pounds, which drew a lot of scrutiny. His conditioning was one of the key reasons listed that played a role in the blockbuster three-team trade that sent him to the Lakers on Feb. 2 last year.

Doncic responded in the last offseason by working on his body and spent the summer in Croatia with a strict routine.

He had several workouts per day, a good diet and cardio sessions designed to shed significant weight. Results were evident as he appeared in the 2025-26 season with a leaner frame, with the Lakers star himself admitting that his “whole body looks better.”

He looked sharper and much more like his younger self, which is evident in his scoring lead.

Yet, the questions rose again with Bayless insinuating that the hard summer conditioning may have been temporary rather than a true lifestyle shift for Doncic.
