Insider Reveals Big Update on 49ers’ Brock Purdy & Ricky Pearsall Injuries

The 49ers may again be without quarterback Brock Purdy and wide receiver Ricky Pearsall in Week 8, as injuries continue to take a toll on San Francisco.

Purdy has already missed five games with a nagging toe injury, and according to Diana Russini of The Athletic, his return remains unclear.

There’s also uncertainty surrounding Pearsall, who has been sidelined three games due to a knee injury.

The 49ers are tied for the NFC West lead at 5-2 and visit the Texans in Week 8.

Purdy Remains Day-to-Day

Purdy sustained his injury in a Week 1 win over the Seahawks. He tried to return Week 4 against the Jaguars but landed back on the injury report after throwing for 309 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Purdy initially said his toe was “a lot better” than when he originally hurt it, yet it continues to give him issues.

Russini issued a concerning update on the Pro Bowler following Sunday’s 20-10 win over the Falcons.

“He went through a workout (Sunday) on the field, and I was told he didn’t really feel that great,” Russini said. “So, we’ll see how this progresses over the next few days.”

The 49ers have a lot invested in Purdy, having signed him to a $265 million contract extension this offseason. His return will be key. But if it’s any consolation, former first-round pick Mac Jones has performed well in his absence.

Jones, the 15th overall pick in 2021, is 4-1 as a starter with 1,404 yards and six touchdowns compared to four interceptions.

Pearsall’s Return ‘Not Definite’

Pearsall is dealing with a knee injury that has sidelined him for three games. Pearsall was unable to practice last week before being ruled for Week 7, and there’s uncertainty about when he’ll make it back.

Like Purdy, the 49ers originally had hoped to have Pearsall back this week.

“Had it circled for Week 8,” Russini said. “It’s just not definite as of right now.”

Selected 31st overall in 2024, Pearsall missed the first six games of his rookie season after being shot in the chest in an attempted robbery. He has 20 catches for 327 yards this year.
