The Chicago Bears lost defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo for the season in Week 9, which sparked speculation that the team might try to make a big move at edge-rusher.
One player potentially available and connected to the Bears was Trey Hendrickson of the Cincinnati Bengals. However, that franchise wanted a first-round pick, which is a significant ask for a player north of 30 years old with a projected market value of $133 million.
Dan Graziano of ESPN linked Chicago and Hendrickson on November 2.
If [Hendrickson] does turn out to be available, Chicago should at least ask. It’s a two-month acquisition, because Hendrickson is not signed beyond this season, and the Bears might have the feel of a rebuilding team long term with [Caleb] Williams in his second season and coach Ben Johnson in his first.
But the standings say what they say, and Johnson has said he has no interest in making this a slow build. Bears GM Ryan Poles is usually active at the trade deadline, and it would be no shock (nor a bad idea) if he made an aggressive move to improve his pass rush for the stretch run.
However, on Tuesday Jay Glazer of Fox Sports doused the notion that Poles will make any “splashy” moves at the deadline when a fan asked him on X if Chicago would be active.
“Yes, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to land a big name player,” Glazer responded. “There just aren’t those level of players being shopped unless it a huge haul and for some guys their deals are up after this year so that complicates things, too. I don’t see anything splashy.”
Bears Add to Edge-Rush Via Trade With Browns

Later in the day, Chicago made a less than splashy play to add a pass-rusher to the roster
“Another trade: Browns sending DE Joe Tryon-Shoyinka and a seventh-round pick to the Chicago Bears in exchange for a sixth-round pick, per sources,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Tuesday on social media. “Chicago lost DE Dayo Odeyingbo to a season-ending Achilles injury on Sunday, and now trade for a potential replacement two days later.”
Tryon-Shoyinka was a first-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021, but didn’t work out there. Now 26 years old, the defensive end put up 15 sacks in Tampa before signing a one-year deal in Cleveland worth $4.75 million.
He has appeared in all eight games for the team this season, but has played just 31 defensive snaps. Tryon-Shoyinka will presumably get more action on the field after joining the Bears ahead of the trade deadline.

At 5-3, Chicago has real aspirations of making a postseason run.
Rookie tight end Colston Loveland and rookie running back Kyle Monangai had their best games of the season in Week 9 against the Cincinnati Bengals, and Williams is progressing under Johnson in their first season together.
The Bears play the New York Giants next week, a game they are favored to win by 3.5 points as of Tuesday, per ESPN BET.
