Jaguars’ Brian Thomas Jr. Gets Blunt Prediction From NFL Exec

The Jacksonville Jaguars have been firm on Brian Thomas Jr. He is not available. He is not being shopped. The plan is to keep him.

One executive around the league, however, sees it differently.

According to reporting from Mike Sando of The Athletic, at least one executive around the league believes Thomas could be on the move by the time the NFL Draft arrives. The Jaguars have insisted otherwise. But the prediction is worth paying attention to.

What the NFL Exec Said About Thomas

The executive did not dismiss Thomas as a talent. Quite the opposite. The assessment was that Jacksonville is smart to hold onto him, which is precisely what makes the scenario interesting.

“The Brian Thomas situation is interesting,” the executive told Sando. “It’s smart to hold onto him. He is too young to give up on that early. I could see him being moved on draft day, if people’s favorite receivers get picked.”

The logic is straightforward. If a team misses on their preferred receiver target in the draft, Jacksonville suddenly becomes a viable trade partner. Thomas is young, proven at his best, and available at the right price. The Jaguars have 11 picks in the upcoming draft, including three in the third round. More draft capital is always on the table if the offer is right.

Thomas had 87 catches for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns as a rookie first-round pick in 2024. Last season under a new staff, he dipped to 48 catches for 707 yards and two touchdowns in three fewer games. The down year has not erased what he showed as a rookie. It has simply created uncertainty around his trajectory.

What the Jaguars Are Dealing With

The Thomas situation does not exist in isolation. Jacksonville is navigating a broader rebuilding moment. Losing Travis Etienne and Devin Lloyd hurt the roster on the field while adding compensatory picks down the line. One executive was blunt about the cost.

“Those might have been their two best players,” the executive said. “They are trying to win comp picks to get a couple third-rounders for next year.”

The Hunter situation adds another layer. The receiver the Jaguars traded two first-round picks to acquire has shown little indication he will be the game-changing force Jacksonville envisioned on draft day. Hunter is expected to focus primarily on cornerback in 2026.

On paper, with Parker Washington, Jakobi Meyers, and Hunter in the mix, the Jaguars could afford to move Thomas if the price is right. His affordable cap hits over the next two seasons make him an attractive asset. Whether Jacksonville blinks depends entirely on what lands on their desk.

Final Word for the Jaguars

The Jaguars say Thomas is staying. One NFL executive thinks draft day could change that.

Both things can be true right now. Jacksonville has a plan. Plans change when first-round picks enter the conversation.

Thomas is too good to give away. He may also be too valuable to hold onto if the right offer arrives.
