Jannik Sinner Reacts to Wimbledon Win Over Carlos Alcaraz

On Sunday, Jannik Sinner avenged his French Open loss to Carlos Alcaraz, winning his first Wimbledon title 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.

After losing the first set 6-4 despite an early break, Sinner appeared to be in total control of the match through much of the second, third, and fourth sets.

Between impressive play at the net and consistency in service games, Sinner was able to dispatch of the two-time reigning champion in just over three hours to become the first Italian to win Wimbledon.

Following his win, Sinner addressed a packed Centre Court at SW19 during his on-court interview, reflecting on the moment:

“It’s so special. Seeing my parents here, my brother, my whole team, it’s amazing. Actually, a special thanks to my brother because there is no Formula 1 race this weekend, that’s why he is here.”

As he went on to say moments later:

“I’m just go grateful that I’m healthy, that I have great people around me, which is the most important part, and having this trophy with me means a lot.”

Jannik Sinner Reflects on Rolad Garros Loss to Alcaraz

For Sinner, Sunday’s win was made all the more sweeter by his heartbreaking French Open loss to Alcaraz at the beginning of June.

After going up two sets to love, Sinner had three match points in the third set before Alcaraz turned things around, winning three straight en route to his second French Open title.

In response to Annabel Croft asking him to describe what he put himself through physically and emotionally to get the win, the world No. 1 explained:

“Mostly emotionally because I had a very tough loss in Paris, but at the end of the day it doesn’t really matter how you win lose or you lose, especially important tournaments, you just have to understand what you did wrong, try to work on that.

“That’s exactly what we did. We tried to accept the loss and just kept working and this is for sure one of the reasons why I hold this trophy here.”


 

“It’s Amazing,” – Sinner Reflects on Tennis Journey So Far

As a Wimbledon champion, Jannik Sinner becomes an honorary member of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, one of the most exclusive clubs in the world.

As Sinner explained, winning Wimbledon wasn’t just a dream for him growing up, it was a dream of a dream; something that felt almost unimaginable.

During his on-court interview, the 23-year-old star reflected on his journey so far:

“It’s amazing to be in this position. We were talking actually before the match. We could never have thought to be in this position and back in the days when I was young this was only a dream of the dream because it was so far away where I’m from. I’m just living my dreams.”

With his win, Jannik Sinner now collects an additional 1,600 ranking points, pushing his total to 12,030 on the ATP live rankings.

Carlos Alcaraz, on the other hand, who entered into this year’s tournament as a two-time defending champion, exits the tournament No. 2 in the world despite losing 700 points for failing to defend his title.
