Jaxon Smith-Njigba Doesn’t Hold Back After Seahawks Beat Rams

It was a challenging game for Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold, who recorded two interceptions. However, he also registered two touchdowns while going 22-for-34 on pass attempts for 270 yards in the 38-37 overtime win over the Los Angeles Rams on December 18 at Lumen Field.

Darnold struggled in the first meeting on November 16 between the Seahawks and Rams, throwing four interceptions. Moreover, it appeared as though the Seattle signal-caller was heading toward another brutal performance, but he turned the situation around.

One of Darnold’s two touchdown passes came in the fourth quarter to level the contest at 30-30. His second pass into the end zone came in overtime to make the contest 37-36. Seattle went for the two-point conversion for the win, and it was a pass from Darnold that sealed the 16-point comeback win.

After the win, Seattle wideout Jaxon Smith-Njigba didn’t hold back on his thoughts regarding Darnold’s performance.

“The most confidence you can have in a person,” Smith-Njigba said about Darnold during a postgame interview with Prime Video. “He shows it time and time again, just to come out and keep swinging. It’s been games like this. This isn’t the first time we had to go down there and take it. I’m super proud of this team and Sam, and lucky to have him.”

Seahawks’ Sam Darnold Talks OT Game-Winning Drive

Along with Smith-Njigba, Darnold was also part of a postgame interview on the set of Prime Video. The Seahawks quarterback shared what was going through his mind during the game-winning drive in overtime to secure the win over the Rams.

“We practice so many situations throughout the week, throughout training camp, throughout the OTAs even, and throughout the week,” Darnold said. “To be able to just get an opportunity to go out there and just run our offense, we weren’t in two minutes, we weren’t in a hurry up.

“It was just like, ‘All right, guys, let’s just play one play at a time.’ That was it. That was our mentality going into that last drive. Like I keep saying, it’s just a huge credit to the guys up front, the big guys up front doing what they do every single play. Wouldn’t be able to have the success, both of us, that we have without those guys.”

The Seahawks Had a Historic Win Over the Rams

Seattle’s rally began with a jolt on special teams, as Rashid Shaheed took one to the house to spark the comeback. From there, Darnold took over, throwing a touchdown late in regulation to force overtime and another score in the extra period.

Head coach Mike Macdonald chose to go for two and the win, and Darnold delivered by hitting tight end Eric Saubert in the back of the end zone, sealing a dramatic victory and sending Seattle to the playoffs.

Furthermore, the comeback was historic. According to ESPN Research, the Seahawks were 0-155-0 all-time when trailing by sixteen or more points in the fourth quarter before Thursday night. The win also allowed Seattle to clinch a playoff spot, moving the team to 12-3.
