Jerry Jones Gives Blunt Message on Cowboys After Loss to Bears

The Dallas Cowboys have had a disappointing start to the season, currently sitting at 1-2. While the Cowboys have played well in certain parts of the year, many other parts of the season have seen them play below average on the defensive side of the ball. Until the Cowboys figure things out on that side, it’s tough to say that this is a playoff team.

Don’t tell Jerry Jones that, however, as Jones went on record after the Cowboys’ 31-14 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday and stated that he believes his team still has a chance to make the postseason. He even went as far as saying that this is a playoff team.

“Jerry Jones said he still fully believes the Cowboys are a playoff team,” Jon Machota reported.

Are the Cowboys Truly Playoff Contenders?

Let’s say that the Dallas Cowboys play a bit better over the next few weeks to months and improve the remainder of their roster.

If the Cowboys do that, while making the necessary moves, they could make the postseason. However, the reality is that the defense is nowhere near good enough to suggest they’re a playoff team.

Until Jones fixes those struggles, he shouldn’t expect anything to change. However, according to Pro Football Talk, Jones is willing to trade the picks that he received in the deal for Micah Parsons right before the season started, which would certainly help.

“If I had the opportunity to really do some good with those picks, I would do it. We’ve got them and that’s one of the advantages to making the trade,” Jones said. “You’ve got to have something that comes your way that’s really special, and if you’ve got the currency to do it, which in this case would be draft picks, we’ll do it.”

“To use that capital, you’ve got to have the opportunity to use it,” Jones said.

Can the Cowboys Bounce Back From a 1-2 Start?

While the Dallas Cowboys offense didn’t necessarily show up on Sunday, scoring just 14 points, which included two interceptions thrown by quarterback Dak Prescott, it’s largely been the struggles on the defensive side of the football to blame for their 1-2 start. The Cowboys allowed 298 yards from Caleb Williams, including four throwing touchdowns.

The Bears finished with 385 total yards on Sunday, averaging 6.8 yards per game.

The season is still early for the Cowboys, a team that has an opportunity to turn things around if everything goes as well as it possibly can over the next few months.

Ultimately, however, the Cowboys have to be better. If Jones truly believes this is a playoff team, he needs to go out and make the necessary moves to improve the defense.

For now, it all starts with each player. Whether it be going out and making plays individually or as a unit, it’s clear that plenty is wrong with the Cowboys’ defense.

“Well, I think it gets fixed individually, each person resolves to be more focused on not only their assignment, but what they’re trying to accomplish as a group out there,” Jones told Machota. “And I think that’s how you get better. And I look forward to it being better. I think we’ve got a lot of room for improvement, without trying to be trite.”
