New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has once again flexed his accountability muscles.
On Saturday, October 4, the Jets announced that they have waived wide receiver Isaiah Williams. Williams had two costly gaffes in the Week 4 contest against the Miami Dolphins.
He fumbled the opening kickoff return of the second half, which the Dolphins immediately cashed in for a touchdown. Williams also fair caught a ball at the Jets‘ own two-yard line.
The Jets lost 27-21 to the Dolphins.
Glenn Proves He Is a Man of His Word for the Jets
This is the second time within the first month of the season that Glenn has thrown someone out the door, who cost his team dearly.
In the season opener, return specialist Xavier Gipson fumbled a kickoff return that the Pittsburgh Steelers converted into a touchdown. The Jets lost that game 34-32.
“The one thing to me that turned this game is man, we can’t have turnovers, can’t do it,” Coach Glenn told the media after the contest. “That is something that will be addressed because you will not be on the field with this team if you’re gonna cause us to lose games if you’re gonna cause issues like that, so we will get that addressed.”
Days after the game, Glenn dumped Gipson.
Fast forward a few weeks, and he has done the same thing to Williams, who just got handed his walking papers. He was initially brought in as the Gipson replacement when the Jets stole him off the Cincinnati Bengals’ practice squad.
Jets Announce Flurry of Roster Moves
After the Jets parted ways with Williams, that opened up a spot on the 53-man roster. To fill that spot, the team signed veteran linebacker Mykal Walker.
Jets editorial contributor Susanna Weir posted more details in a press release saying, “Walker (6-3, 235), who was signed to the Jets‘ practice squad on Sept. 1., was elevated for the Green & White’s Week 4 game against the Dolphins. He played in 74 games from 2020-24 with Atlanta (2020-22), Pittsburgh (2023), and Washington (2024) while registering 241 tackles, 7 TFL and 3 FR. Walker, 28, who most recently was with the Arizona Cardinals in training camp, appeared in 17 games last season for the Commanders and logged 344 special teams plays in addition to 77 defensive snaps. He had 21 tackles and 2 FR.”

Walker is signed to the 53-man roster.
The Jets made two temporary practice squad elevations for this contest.
Undrafted free agent defensive back Dean Clark and running back/return specialist Avery Williams were elevated.
After this Dallas game, both players will revert to the practice squad.
Social Media’s Top Reactions to Jets Moving on From Williams
Play Like A Jet host, Scott Mason, said, “Glad to see AG not resting on his laurels here. Isaiah Williams was a bottom of the roster player & guys like that simply can’t be making mistakes that cost games. Avery Williams has experience & a good rep as a return man. Hopefully he makes the most of his opportunity.”
Brian Costello of the New York Post posted this reaction on social media, saying, “[the] Jets make it official. They waived Isaiah Williams after his fumble last week, as @RichCimini reported. Jets still searching for a returner that sticks.”
