Jets Are Finally Turning a Corner

Even though the New York Jets have not been able to enter the win column much throughout the season, the organization has showed a positive shift towards a winning culture by staying competitive throughout all four quarters of each game, especially recently.

ESPN’s Rich Cimini wrote, “The Jets have been involved in seven straight games that were within one score in the fourth quarter. In truth, they’ve been blown out only twice (Buffalo Bills and Dallas Cowboys).”

To go more in depth, out of New York’s nine total losses, five were by a single possession. Even though these games did not result in victories, the fact that the team has remained competitive throughout entire games is a strong sign of a cultural shift, especially compared to how some losses played out in prior seasons.

“There was something missing from the organization the past couple of years, where when they fell behind, you immediately thought, ‘Here comes the rout.’ When they were up, you were like, ‘They are going to find a way to blow it,’” said Connor Hughes of SNY on Jets Final Drive. “Now you’re holding onto every third quarter and every fourth quarter, where as long as the Jets find themselves in the game, you kinda get the feeling these last five games, like they’re gonna find a way to pull it out—or at least they’re gonna make it interesting, or at least they’re going to have a chance to win the game.”

Team Has Been Playing Well Despite Major Losses

Entering the season, many expected the Jets’ success to rely on key players like wide receiver Garrett Wilson, cornerback Sauce Gardner, and defensive lineman Quinnen Williams. However, Wilson has been sidelined with a knee injury, and both Gardner and Williams were traded away when the team was just 1-7. Despite losing these defensive stars, the Jets have still managed to rack up multiple wins and stay competitive.

“They haven’t had star wide receiver Garrett Wilson (knee) for any of their wins. They traded cornerback Sauce Gardner and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams — both former All-Pros — on Nov. 4, when the record was 1-7. In fact, Gardner was injured and didn’t play in that win,” wrote Cimini.

Glenn Gives Props to His Team

After the Jets’ winless 0-7 start to the season and the trading away of those star players, many fans around the NFL seemed to assume the Jets would finish with the worst record in the league and secure the first overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. New York has surprised those critics, earning multiple victories and staying competitive in every game.

Following Sunday’s win over the Atlanta Falcons, Head Coach Aaron Glenn said, “These guys never quit. They get bashed—everybody on this team gets bashed for everything—and it’s okay because we know exactly what we’re trying to do. We’re going to continue to just block out all the noise and keep our focus straight ahead on that vision that we’ve got for what we’re trying to build as a team.”

It is clear that New York’s culture is shifting in a positive direction and it will be interesting to see if the team can finish off the season strong in the final stretch of the regular season.
