Jets Awarded ‘Big Time Hitter’ Vikings Rookie Before Bengals Clash

The New York Jets have brought in some reinforcements.

Gang Green announced on social media that they have claimed rookie linebacker Kobe King on waivers. He was waived by the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday, October 23.

Glenn Naughton of Jet Nation said King was a “big-time hitter who showed impressive range in college.”

Jets Say King Me Ahead of Week 8

King, 22, entered the league as the No. 201 overall pick in the sixth round in April’s draft.

Jets editorial contributor Susanna Weir revealed more info in a press release: “The Penn State product appeared in 5 games for Minnesota this season, playing 77 snaps on special teams and 3 snaps on defense. King appeared in 46 games for the Nittany Lions, recording 200 tackles, 18.5 TFLs, and 4.5 sacks.”

Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic explained that King has “only really played on special teams for Minnesota” during his rookie campaign.

Jets Are Dealing With a Laundry List of Injuries

On the final injury report, the Jets ruled out six players ahead of the Week 8 Cincinnati Bengals game.

That group included two starters (cornerback Sauce Gardner and wide receiver Garrett Wilson), a key special teamer (running back Kene Nwangwu), and three depth pieces (defensive tackle Jay Tufele, tight end Stone Smartt, and linebacker Cam Jones).

Five players received “questionable” injury designations from the team: running back Breece Hall, wide receiver Josh Reynolds, tight end Mason Taylor, quarterback Tyrod Taylor, and linebacker Quincy Williams.

“I really like the way they are trending,” head coach Aaron Glenn explained on Friday, October 24, for the players who are listed as “questionable.”

Three players didn’t receive an injury designation and are now full go for the Bengals road trip. That group includes the return of slot corner Michael Carter II, pass rusher Jermaine Johnson, and cornerback Qwan’tez Stiggers.

Carter was a full participant in practice all week as he passed the final phase of the NFL’s concussion protocol. Johnson and Stiggers were limited during Wednesday’s practice but were full participants on Thursday and Friday.

Aaron Glenn Explains the Three Focal Points for His Team This Week

“When it comes to this week, there has been a focus of really three things for us. I can see this being the focus going forward until the end of the season. Number one: how do we plan and make sure we download this plan against this team to go and beat this team. Next is now taking that plan and executing it on the field in practice to make sure we go and beat this team. Also, how do we improve and get 1% better as a team collectively to make sure we go out and play supportive football. That has been our plan [and] that has been our focus. That will continue to be our focus,” coach Glenn said.

The Jets’ season has been defined by a lack of complementary football. One week, the offense is playing well. Another week, the defense is killing it. Then there will be a week of elite special teams play. The problem for the Jets is that they haven’t had all sides of the ball firing on all cylinders.

If the Jets want to secure their first win, that has to change.
