Things are not looking good for New York Jets wide receiver Malachi Corley heading into training camp.
Corley has been dealing with an undisclosed injury throughout voluntary OTAs and mandatory minicamp. Jets offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand revealed that Corley is in dire straits and he will need to put in some serious effort to turn things around.
When asked what he has to do to get into the wide receiver competition, Engstrand was direct.
“That is really a great question really for him to answer, how do I get myself mentally caught back up because I wasn’t able to get the physical reps this spring. Ultimately, that is going to be what it is because the other guys do have a handful of practices ahead of him and those physical reps. So he is going to have to find a way to catch himself up with that stuff,” Engstrand explained. “Just do what he is asked to do. Ultimately, be out there and be present.”
Head Coach Aaron Glenn Reiterates the Same Consistent Jets Message
“From what I remember from Corley in college is his ability to get the ball in his hands & make something happen, & when you have a player like that, the 1st thing you think about is screens. You think about punt returns, kick returns, things like that,” head coach Aaron Glenn told the media via Jets reporter Harrison Glaser.

The best ability is your availability.
To put it bluntly, Corley hasn’t been available this offseason. He can have all of the skills in the world and Engstrand can dream of all kinds of creative ways to use him, but it won’t mean crap unless he is healthy.
Because of all the time missed, Corley has to catch up on the physical and mental reps he has lost. Then he has to make up a ton of ground to try and leap past the other wide receivers in the room.
Easier said than done.
“We have a ways to go to really try to figure out exactly where we’re gonna place him, cause he’s been in & out, & that’s just what it is, but there’s a plan for him, & we’re gonna make sure that we try to utilize him to what he can do best, & we’ve seen that in college,” Glenn added about Corley via Glaser.
The Scholarship Is Over for Corley
Last year was the honeymoon for Corley.
The Jets traded up to select him, and the coaching staff bragged about how highly they had him rated. Corley’s rookie season came and went in underwhelming fashion.
Fast forward to year No. 2, and Corley is fighting for his NFL life. He has three years remaining on his $6 million rookie deal.
New head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey don’t care about Corley’s origin story. This is a what can you do for me now league. Right now, Corley can’t make the club in the tub.
It’s do or die for Corley in 2025.
