The New York Jets have a treasure chest of draft picks available after executing a pair of blockbuster trades.
Moe Moton of Bleacher Report believes the Jets could use some of those assets to bring in a superstar on the offensive side of the ball. He wrote a column predicting trades that could go down in 2026.
He listed the Jets as a “potential suitor” for Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown.
“The Eagles are trying to become repeat champions. So, of course, with a 6-2 record, they would prefer to keep their No. 1 wide receiver, but Roseman may be open to a deal in the offseason if Brown continues to express his frustrations with the offense,” Moton explained.
“Looking ahead, the Eagles could trade Brown for a first-round pick and an additional selection, then draft his replacement, as the Tennessee Titans did when they traded him to Philadelphia in 2022. Brown will turn 29 in June, which is still the back-end prime of his career. Philadelphia should be able to command at least a first-rounder for him, assuming he’s healthy for the 2026 term,” Moton added.
That Could Be Exactly What the Doctor Is Looking For
The Jets have Garrett Wilson at wide receiver and then a bunch of question marks. He could use a competent pass catcher across from him to force defenses into making business decisions on a play-to-play basis. Do we double-team Brown? Do we double-team Wilson?
Brown, 28, will be 29 by the start of the 2026 season. He is under contract ($96 million) through the 2029 season and is scheduled to be a free agent in 2030.
The former Ole Miss product entered the league in 2019 as the No. 51 overall pick in the second round. Brown has appeared in 97 games and has made 89 starts during his career.
With those opportunities, Brown has racked up 475 receptions for 7,421 receiving yards and has scored 52 touchdowns.
He has registered five 1,000-yard receiving campaigns in his seven seasons in the league. Brown has twice eclipsed the 1,400 receiving yardage mark in his career.
The talented receiver has a sterling resume that includes three Pro Bowls, three second-team All-Pro campaigns, and he was a key piece of the team that won the Super Bowl this past season.
There Are Some Problems With This Potential Move
Does Brown fit the Jets’ timeline? How quickly are they going to turn this thing around to start winning? If the answer to that question is immediate, then a Brown acquisition suddenly makes a lot of sense. However, if this is a rebuild and the trades of Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams would strongly suggest that — Brown could cause more problems than solutions.
If Brown is so good, why would the Eagles be moving off him? Brown hasn’t been afraid to post cryptic posts on social media about his lack of usage, even if the team is winning games.
Sound familiar? It should.
The Jets experienced those same problems with another former Ole Miss wide receiver: Elijah Moore.
Moore and Brown are very close. When the Jets took Moore in the second round, he was at his house, and shared an emotional moment with Brown moments after getting drafted.
The Jets are likely taking a young quarterback in the 2026 NFL draft. I’m not sure how to properly develop a quarterback, and neither do the Jets, for that matter. I’d imagine a recipe for success doesn’t include having a mercurial receiver demanding the ball, or else I’ll take my frustrations to social media.
You can’t deny Brown’s talent. If he gets traded somewhere else, someone is going to get a really dynamic receiver. However, the Jets should strongly consider other options to invest their future draft capital into, with all due respect.
