Jets Make Flurry of Signings Including QB Addition Ahead of Bills Game

The New York Jets made a flurry of signings ahead of the Week 18 Buffalo Bills road trip.

Gang Green announced on social media that they have signed three players to the active roster: quarterback Hendon Hooker, offensive lineman Kohl Levao, and defensive lineman Kingsley Jonathan.

Hooker gives the Jets another option at the quarterback position. Brady Cook will start. Tyrod Taylor has been battling injuries and some personal issues. If he is unable to go, Hooker will get to serve as the QB2 for the second straight week.

In a series of corresponding roster moves, the Jets placed rookie tight end Mason Taylor, running back Isaiah Davis, and offensive lineman Xavier Newman on injured reserve. With only one game remaining in the 2025 regular season, Taylor/Davis/Newman’s seasons are officially over.

Smart Maneuvering by the Jets

If any players are hurt and can’t play this week, you might as well throw them on IR. There is no limit to how many players you can place on injured reserve.

The Jets are at the end of their season; you might as well share those roster spots with players who can actually suit up against Buffalo.

Davis and Newman’s injuries don’t seem serious, so they should be good to go for the 2026 offseason programs. Taylor’s injury is more concerning. He has been battling a neck issue.

Head coach Aaron Glenn expressed optimism several weeks ago that Taylor would be able to return to the lineup, but that never happened.

A media member asked Coach Glenn this week if there was a medical setback with Taylor. Coach responded no and just said that is what the doctors recommended.

Anytime you’re dealing with a neck injury, it is always a different level of seriousness.

Jets Replace Two Key Players With Practice Squad Bodies

The green and white were dealt two critical blows on Saturday, January 3.

Gang Green announced that starting running back Breece Hall and starting cornerback Brandon Stephens were downgraded to out. Both players have been straws that stir the drink for the Jets, particularly Hall on the offensive side of the ball.

With the Jets down a tailback and a member of the secondary, they brought in reinforcements.

The team elevated running back Raheem Blackshear and defensive back Sam Womack for the Bills game from the practice squad. Both players will revert to the P-Squad on Monday, January 5.

If the Jets have to rely on either of those players for major contributions on Sunday, that sort of tells you where we are in this season.

The Jets are dragging themselves to the finish. This team is 3-13 and is ready for their planned trip to Cancun next week.

After this season comes to a merciful end, it’ll be on this regime to press the right buttons in the offseason. Playoffs would be nice for a team that hasn’t been there in 15 years next year. However, there is a necessary step in between: competitiveness.

We haven’t seen that from the Jets over the last month. If we don’t see that more in 2026, the team will inevitably hit the reset button again in 2027.
