JJ Redick Caught Cursing At Bronny James For Mistake

Head coach JJ Redick gave Bronny James the second start of his NBA on Saturday against the Milwaukee Bucks. Extra coverage is always placed on the Los Angeles Lakers for LeBron James’ son trying to earn playing time on the NBA level. Bronny was criticized for not taking enough shots and looking clueless on offense a couple of times in the start.

However, the situation grew worse when a recent video of a different camera angle showed just how angry Redick got at the second-year player. Bronny passed on multiple open shots when teammate Luka Doncic used a double team to set him up. Redick is shown and heard saying “Bronny, you got to shoot the f’n ball” to him after he passed on a jumper.

Redick has been accused of being too close to LeBron when the Lakers hired him shortly after the two hosted a popular podcast about highlighting theire basketball intelligence. However, the coach calling out Bronny and treating him like any player proves that Redick is not overlooking the mistakes of LeBron’s son.

Why Did Bronny James Upset Redick?

Bronny only played 10 minutes for the Lakers against Milwaukee, despite suiting up with the starting lineup. Redick lost faith in James due to the multiple times he refused to shoot. Only two shot attempts from Bronny proved that he was clearly in his own head and refused to take what the defense gave him.

James is supposed to have the skill set of playing strong defense and hitting open shots. Redick was livid about one of the two things he should feel comfortable doing being so far out of his comfort zone that night. The playing career of Redick saw him as a shooter that never feared taking an open shot as an all-time great three-point marksman.

Doncic also showed visible frustration about setting a teammate up with a pass that ultimately led to nothing. Bronny will have more chances, but Redick’s yelling made it clear that he needs to start making shots on offense. Only so few minutes are open on a team with three superstars and title contending goals.

Did Bronny James Learn From Mistakes?

Tonight’s Lakers game against the Utah Jazz saw them on the court for the first time since Redick pulled Bronny on Saturday. LeBron returning to the starting lineup and playing for 30 minutes meant less time for most of the role players. Bronny did get to follow his father, but he only received 3 minutes on the court.

One major positive was that Bronny didn’t hesitate and hit his one three-point shot attemtp from deep in the limited minutes. Unfortunately, a bigger issue saw James having 3 turnovers in the 3 minutes to average one per minute. Bronny has a lot to improve before he gets regular playing time for the Lakers bench rotation.

LeBron’s return may help that, especially since the Lakers’ offense has run smoothly with Doncic and Austin Reaves thriving. Redick can easily play King James with more bench players, including his son. If Bronny doesn’t have strong minutes on the court with LeBron, it is hard to predict him turning things around.
