The Cleveland Browns snatched their first win of the season from the clutches of the Green Bay Packers, despite failing to score a point until fewer than four minutes remained in the fourth quarter.
Cleveland’s 13-10 victory over the Packers on Sunday, September 21, saves the Browns’ season, at least for now, and required an interception return to inside Green Bay’s 5-yard line as well as a blocked field goal attempt and a 55-yard game-winner as time expired.
Fans at the stadium made their displeasure with the offense known for much of the afternoon via a chorus of boos, while the internet offered an even louder referendum on the unit in its own way. Even after pulling out the win, the Browns continue to face serious concerns with an offense that has scored just 14.3 points per game through three weeks.
Quarterback Joe Flacco spoke with reporters following the game and addressed those worries in brutally honest fashion.
“It wasn’t pretty today. It was tough. There was times where there probably were guys down the field that were open and it’s just, I didn’t make it happen,” Flacco said. “And you feel for the group as a whole. I mean, everybody wants to go out there and perform and put up numbers, points, yards, all that stuff. And part of your job as a quarterback is to get that done.”
Joe Flacco Admitted Win Over Packers Wasn’t Enjoyable Until Over

Flacco added that he and the rest of his teammates felt the crowd’s displeasure, which amplified the players’ own.
It’s hard when you’re in your own stadium and you can’t put points on the board. And everybody feels it. And you feel it.
There was not a lot of enjoyment today until the very end. … Maybe when the defense was out there they were cheering.
You’re not necessarily enjoying yourself. You’re still grateful to be out there and be on the football field, but you’re not out there just loving life when you’re getting your butt kicked and you can’t put any points on the board.
You are a little embarrassed. There’s a piece of you that wants to just put your head down and hide. You can’t do that … you have to be able to hold your head up and take it, just take the onslaught of crap that possibly may come your way.
Everybody heard boos
Flacco finished the day 21-of-36 passing for 142 yards and an interception. He has 631 passing yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions on the season.
Browns Sticking With Joe Flacco as Starting Quarterback

Head coach Kevin Stefanski said after the game that Flacco will keep the starting job heading into Week 4, when the Browns will square off against the Detroit Lions on the road.
Whether that would be the case had Cleveland failed to score 13 points in less than four minutes and steal a victory from the Packers is uncertain. However, Flacco said it was more than just luck that got the Browns across the finish line Sunday.
“Things went our way this game down the stretch. And you could say that … but there is more to it than that,” Flacco contended. “The fact that we were able to stick with it, and we didn’t have a bunch of guys bailing out and quitting on the team and throwing temper tantrums on the sideline — I’m sure guys felt like that, I’m sure there were those feelings in guys to want to do that, but we didn’t. It may be easy to just say the ball bounced our way, but those things matter too.”
