Josh Allen took a beating as the Buffalo Bills lost to the Houston Texans on Thursday, but got a chance to rest and relax with wife Hailee Steinfeld during a big honor on the weekend.
Allen was sacked a career-high eight times during the 23-19 loss on Thursday, falling victim to Houston’s league-best defense, which also forced two interceptions. It was a brutal loss for a Bills team that desperately needs to make up ground in the AFC East, especially after a big win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers just days before.
Despite the difficult loss, Allen had a chance to get away from the NFL for a bit this weekend as he returned to Wyoming for a big honor at his alma mater — and an opportunity to take in the day with his wife.
Josh Allen & Hailee Steinfeld Share Tender Moment at Wyoming Ceremony
Allen became just the third athlete in Wyoming history to have his number retired, with his alma mater holding a ceremony prior to their game on Saturday.
After being honored on the field, Allen watched the game from a luxury box with Steinfeld. Cameras caught the two sharing a tender moment together as they watched the game.
Allen has been enjoying married life since tying the knot with the Marvel actress in May. The Bills quarterback told ESPN’s Marty Smith last month that this has been the “most fulfilling chapter” of his life so far.
“My wife is an unbelievable, undeniable rockstar, in her work, in her life as a person,” Allen said.
Steinfeld has been just as supportive of Allen, telling Variety last month that she’s taking a break from projects to support him and cheer on the Bills.
“This time of year, I get to hunker down, slow down, support him and live life,” Steinfeld said. “When the offseason rolls around, it’s go-time for me.”
Josh Allen Happy for ‘Amazing Honor’
Allen has spoken often about the importance Wyoming played in his football career. He was not on the Division I radar after high school and first played at junior college, hoping it would catapult him into the college landscape.
But despite emailing every Division I college coach, he got only one offer — at Wyoming. It was there that he grew into a star and, by his senior season, one of the top NFL prospects.
At the ceremony on Saturday, Allen thanked those at Wyoming who believed in him when no one else did.
“First off, I just want to say thank you for everybody coming out tonight. This is such an amazing honor, a huge blessing,” Allen said, via ESPN. “There’s so many people that I can thank for this achievement. A lot of teammates here. Love you guys.
“Coach Bohl, coach [Brent Vigen], people that believed in me. The fans, and the support here in Wyoming. I’m so honored and blessed to represent this university and this beautiful state. I love you guys. Thank you. God bless. Go Pokes, and it will always suck to be a CSU Ram.”
