Justin Fields’ Simple Response After Being Benched

Going into Week 12 the New York Jets will be rolling out a new starting quarterback. Tyrod Taylor is set to take over the offense, replacing Justin Fields. With the Jets sitting at 2–8 and the offense continuing to struggle in the passing game, the move comes as little surprise.

Head Coach Aaron Glenn explained the move at quaterback, saying, “At this point, we have to do something to jump-start our passing game, and I felt it was time to make this decision,” wrote ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

Through nine games, Fields ranks 29th in passing yards with 1,259 and is tied for 29th in passing touchdowns with seven.

When asked about his reaction to the quarterback change, Fields said, “There’s no reaction. That’s life. (Expletive) happens,” wrote SNY’s Connor Hughes.

NFL Insider Believes Fields Will Get Another NFL Opportunity

Even with the rough 2025 NFL season for Fields, NFL Insider Jordan Schultz does not think this will be the last opportunity Fields gets to start for an NFL team.

“Is there blame on Fields? Yes, one-hundred percent there is, but this isn’t a situation where you just throw him away and never hear from him again,” Schultz said on The Schultz Report on Wednesday, November 19th.

Schultz added, “I think he’s likely to part ways with the Jets after the season and he’ll get another opportunity, potentially as a bridge quarterback somewhere.  Maybe like a Mac Jones in San Francisco or in a job potentially where he can compete, like Daniel Jones did in Indy, but given the age, the pedigree, the overall skill set — make no mistake, this is not the end for Justin Fields.”

Although there are real concerns about Fields’ ability to operate the passing game, there’s no question he has elite athleticism and is one of the most mobile quarterbacks in the NFL. That skill set could still draw interest from some teams if the Jets decide to move on from him after the season.

With the Quarterback Change Comes Necessary Play Calls

The Jets have given the keys of the offense to Tyrod Taylor seemingly to open up the playbook and allow this offense to put the ball in the air.  With the Jets sitting at 2-8 and playoff aspirations basically out the window, evaluating young talent in the passing attack will be very important for the remainder of the season.

“The rest of this season is about 2026. They need to spend it evaluating who can or should be a piece for this team next year, especially on offense. They need a QB capable of at least delivering these young WRs the ball,” wrote Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic on Wednesday, November 17th.

There is no question that the Jets’ strength on offense is utilizing Breece Hall in the running game behind their strong offensive line, but for the sake of knowing what weapons the Jets have on offense going into next year, it will be important to start throwing the ball consistently in the final stretch of the season.
