Justin Jefferson Closing In On History (Again)

Justin Jefferson has been an absolute revelation for the Vikings since he was drafted in 2020.

Everyone remembers the Philadelphia Eagles selecting Jalen Reagor the pick before the Vikings pounced on Jefferson. That Philadelphian draft blunder is paying off in spades for Minnesota, as Jefferson is closing in on NFL history yet again.

Justin Jefferson Is Close to Making More History

We’ve grown accustomed to this topic of conversation. Through the first five seasons and a handful of games played, Justin Jefferson has done nothing but break through ceilings.

It began his rookie year when he broke the record for most receiving yards by a rookie in NFL history with 1,400 yards. Fast forward to 2025, and “Jettas” is going to break another ceiling very soon.

The former LSU receiver in his sixth season has accumulated 8,179 total yards through 87 games played per Statmuse. This mark is now only 196 yards of Randy Moss’ record of 8,375 yards through a receiver’s first six seasons. That feat took Moss 96 games played to achieve.

Theoretically, Justin Jefferson could break this record on Sunday at Lambeau Field in Green Bay against the Packers. However, given the recent play of J.J. McCarthy, this is rather unlikely to happen.

Regardless, it’s just another notch in Justin Jefferson’s belt. His production this season has taken a bit of dip with the uncertainty at signal caller. Still, a receiver as good as him is still going to get his. There’s plenty of other receivers you can argue that are currently “better” receivers in the NFL, but it’s all based off of production.

“Jettas” Remains a Top WR in the NFL, Regardless of Stats

Justin Jefferson, Vikings

GettyWide receiver Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings remains a top WR in the NFL, despite his statistically “down” year of production.

Justin Jefferson currently sits at 7th in the NFL in total receiving yards with 747. This is obviously a good spot to be in, but still feels like a down season for him. Vikings fans have become accustomed to seeing him as the leading receiver in the league, let alone top 3. It is a bit jolting to see the superstar roughly 400 yards behind the league-leading Jaxon Smith-Njigba over in Seattle with Sam Darnold.

These historical milestones are nothing new to Jefferson or the Vikings fans that root for him, and that’s not going to change anytime soon. Next year, in year 7 of his career, we will be doing this exact same kind of watching for these achievements.

This will likely last to the end of his career, and we should enjoy it while it lasts. It is likely that one of these other young receivers like Puka Nacua or Ja’Marr Chase will surpass his numbers. Ja’marr Chase would be more likely to, seeing as he is tied at the hip with superstar quarterback Joe Burrow.

Nonetheless, enjoy the history, Vikings fans. It was an absolute blessing that Minnesota was able to immediately replace Stefon Diggs with a guy that is constantly on the tail of Randy Moss.
