Vikings head coach Kevin OâConnell shared encouraging news Monday on running back Aaron Jones.
Jones left Sundayâs 27-24 win over the Lions with shoulder soreness after rushing for 78 yards on nine carries and gaining another 20 yards on two catches.
âPositive news early on on Aaron Jones,â OâConnell said. âHeâs sore, obviously, coming out of the game, but the evaluations have been pretty positive today. Weâll see how he does throughout the week, but (I’m) expecting him to be able to kinda hopefully ramp up his workload.â
Jones Promises to ‘Be Back Out There’
Jones, 30, missed four games earlier this season with a hamstring injury and Sunday was just his second since coming off injured reserve. In his second season with the Vikings, the former Pro Bowler has 139 yards on 27 carries to go with 79 yards and a touchdown on seven catches.
OâConnell sounded optimistic that Jones will be able to play Week 10 against the Ravens, though itâll obviously depend on how he progresses.
NFL Networkâs Tom Pelissero described Jonesâ injury as an AC joint sprain but noted itâs believed to be âminor.â
If itâs up to Jones, heâll be back out there.
âIâve played through an AC before,â Jones told Reggie Wilson of Kare 11 News in Minneapolis. âIâm good. Iâll be good. Iâll be back out there.â
Vikings Have Quality Depth Behind Jones
Jordan Mason handled the bulk of work in Jonesâ absence, rushing for 419 yards and four touchdowns on 98 carries. He also has 11 catches for 38 yards.
In Week 3 against the Bengals, the 26-year-old had his first 100-yard game since September 2024 when he ran for 116 yards and two scores on 16 carries.
Behind Mason on the depth chart is Zavier Scott, an undrafted free agent out of Maine who has been with the Vikingsâ practice squad since last season. Scott has 69 yards on 21 carries and scored his first NFL touchdown â a 16-yard pass from Carson Wentz â in a Week 4 loss to the Steelers in Dublin.
Minnesota is 4-4.
