The New York Knicks were able to win the NBA Cup over the San Antonio Spurs. It’s the first time that the organization has won a championship of sorts since 1973. While the game won’t technically count as part of the regular season, it still clearly mattered to this team.
During the game, Karl-Anthony Towns left the game in significant pain. He was subbed out for the start of the fourth quarter before eventually returning later on in the game. Towns was on the floor when the Knicks were able to clinch the game and win.
It was reported by Cassidy Hubbarth on the Amazon Prime broadcast that Towns had a calf injury. Following the game, Towns was asked about his injury by the media.

Knicks’ Karl-Anthony Towns Gives Cryptic Injury Update
Towns’ answer when asked about his injury won’t exactly make Knicks fans feel great about his future availability.
“I only care we won the game, got the shirt, and the hat. That’s what I’ve been striving for all day. All day. That’s all that matters.”
Towns side-stepped the question, not revealing if there is anything physically wrong with him that could affect him in the future. Mitchell Robinson was playing so well that subbing him in while Towns was hurting didn’t affect the team very much.
Robinson is an injury-prone player at center himself. If the Knicks need to rely on Robinson to start for an extended period of time, that could be risky. Towns did finish this game, so he was physically able to play. If he were truly injured, he wouldn’t have been on the court.
New York will evaluate Towns’ calf over the next few days to figure out how much time he will miss, if any. The Knicks play again on Friday night, so they will be cautious with him since he won’t be getting much rest.

Karl-Anthony Towns has Turned His Game Around Since Arriving in New York
Towns has transformed his game since arriving in New York. Towns put up some of the best offensive numbers last season, his first after being traded from Minnesota. With his role in the Knicks’ offense, he is putting up the highest offensive rating of his career.
Better yet, Towns has the highest net rating of his career this season. He has been exactly what the Knicks have needed on the offensive end, but his defense has always been the question. While he still picks up some dumb fouls, he has worked hard on that end of the court.
Towns’ improvement in the last couple of years is one of the reasons why the Knicks might be a little hesitant to trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo. They sit second in the Eastern Conference standings at the moment. The Knicks came into the season as one of the favorites to win the Eastern Conference, and that hasn’t changed.
