Lane Kiffin Makes Final Decision on LSU or Ole Miss: Report

On Sunday, Nov. 30, Lane Kiffin will make his decision on if he’ll stay as the head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels or move onto the LSU Tigers for the 2026 season official, and now, we already know his answer.

It’s a decision that’s been a long time in the making. With Ole Miss’ rise to the top of the college football ranks, Kiffin has caught the eyes of everything in the sport, and both LSU and the Florida Gators have been salivating at the idea of bringing him to their schools.

Kiffin’s record at Ole Miss in 2025 is a lofty 11-1, and his record overall at the college is 54-19. We’re getting Nick Saban vibes, and so is LSU.

On Friday, Nov. 28, Kiffin had tipped off the sports world that he’d be announcing his final decision the next day. “I’ve got a lot of praying to do to figure that out tomorrow,” he said, “but right now I’m just going to go enjoy these players. I told them last night, ‘You’re going to go win your 11th game and all I want to do is experience joy watching you.’ That’s what I’m about to do.”

So, will Kiffin extend his contract at Ole Miss and say put or go to Baton Rouge? He’s made his final decision on the matter.


Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss vs LSU Decision

According to a report from EPSN, Kiffin will head to LSU. The school will pay Kiffin around $12 million annually across seven seasons, “with the potential for bonuses, making him one of the highest-paid coaches in the sport,” they note from a source.

So, it came a day late, but Kiffin is going to LSU to serve as their head coach starting in the 2026 season, according to EPSN. So, welcome to the Tigers, Kiffin.

According to ESPN, even though Rebels athletics director Keith Carter and chancellor Glenn Boyce “were adamant’ that he wouldn’t coach he Kiffin took the job with a SEC rival, Kiffin lobbied the Ole Miss administrators to change their minds.

“Ole Miss doesn’t want Kiffin around its players with the transfer portal opening on Jan. 2,” the ESPN report added. “The Rebels also don’t want their CFP games to be a “commercial” for LSU’s future under Kiffin.”

College football insider Brett McMurphy even said the situation has “gotten even messier,” with Kiffin “essentially demanding to finish the season (w/Ole Miss) while simultaneously threatening to poach” Ole Miss’ roster and staff if he can’t. & staff if he can’t.


Nick Saban Has an Opinion About Lane Kiffin

People have been talking about Kiffin all week. On ESPN’s “College GameDay” on Saturday, Nov. 29, legendary coach Nick Saban said, “What do you do at Ole Miss, when they have never been in the SEC championship game ever and if Alabama’s loses they get in the SEC championship game and they’re not going to allow Lane to in that game? That’s crazy.”

Also talking about the situation on Pat McAfee Show, Saban said, “I think you have to be upfront and honest with your team about things like this. Anytime we had a disruption or a distraction, I brought it up to the team and I challenged them to handle it in a mature way.”

Kiffin previously said he would call Saban and Las Vegas Raiders head coach Pete Carroll for advice on his final LSU decision.
