The Detroit Lions get to relax in comfort this weekend, because on Thursday, December 5, they pulled off a must-win game over the Dallas Cowboys, ending in a 44-30 win. While Detroit was ecstatic about the win, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones, of course, was not.
Coming out of the game, the Detroit Lions have an 8-5 record, and their playoff hopes are alive. For the Dallas Cowboys, they aren’t out of the playoff picture, but it’s certainly much more difficult for them to get there.
The Lions now have a 54% chance of making it to the postseason, according to NFL research, so while it’s not perfect, it’s certainly doable. The Cowboys meanwhile only have an 8% chance, and this is coming after the Cowboys had a string of hot games where it seemed they were really gaining momentum. So, Jones is not happy, and he’s not a shy person, so he’s making it known.
Jerry Jones Talks Detroit Lions
After the Cowboys loss, Jones talked about the Lions and specifically quarterback Jared Goff. He was upset with his defense for not getting enough pressure on the signal-caller.
“He’s a statue. I say that positively,” he said during an appearance on The Fan, Joseph Hoyt of the Dallas News reported.
“He’s not the move around guy… we had our ears pinned back,” Jones added, according to Hoyt. “We should’ve done better stopping the run and getting pressure on him. We’re going to be analyzing everything with real detail.”
It’s classy that Jones made sure to say that he wasn’t taking a knock on Goff with the “I say that positively” comment. Instead, he was upset with his team for not having better control of the situation.
Dan Campbell Talks Detroit Lions Win Over Dallas Cowboys
Following the game, Lions head coach Dan Campbell talked to the media, and he didn’t talk much about the Cowboys as a team. Instead, he focused on the strong performance from his team, saying he was “proud of the guys” and that “they rallied” and “showed up.”
“The work was there all week. It always is, but the intensity, the urgency,” he added. “The guys don’t ever get frazzled. they don’t get panicked. They just go to work, and they did it again. Talk about takeaways, man, we got takeaways. We got three of them. Two of them turned into 14 points. We were able to turn those up. Then the last one we were able to kneel it after (D.J.) Reed’s pick.”
He also gave props to Al-Quadin Muhammad with his three sacks, which Campbell called “big time.” He said that while Aidan Hutchinson gets a lot of attention, it’s important to give props to Muhammad, too.
As for how the team will move forward after this win, he said, “Well, we clean up the stuff that bit us today. That’s what we do. Clean up the stuff that bit us.”
He added, So, we did some good things today, that’s good. Let’s see if we can tweak a couple things and do a version of it.”
