Manchester City are exploring a late move for Manchester United transfer target Senne Lammens before the end of the summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old is regarded as one of the best young goalkeepers playing outside Europe’s top five leagues with United credited with firm interest.

The problems in goal that have plagued United have shown no sign of ending with Altay Bayindir at fault for Arsenal’s winner at Old Trafford on Sunday with Andre Onana left out of the squad completely.

Despite major concerns among supporters and former players, the messages out of United have been they are in no rush to sign another goalkeeper this summer with another midfield option a more immediate priority.

‘I’m happy with the three goalkeepers,’ Amorim said after Sunday’s defeat, having defender Bayindir after his error.

It could present an opportunity to City with Sacha Tavolieri reporting Pep Guardiola’s side have now turned their attention to Lammens.

City have already spent £30million bringing James Trafford back to the club from Burnley with doubts still lingering over the future of Ederson, who is wanted by Galatasaray.

The Brazil international is said to be keen on a move to Turkey with Guardiola rarely standing in a player’s way when they seek a new challenge.

City are interested in signing Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain, available for just £26million with the European champions signing a new no1 this summer.

A move for Lammens would represent a much more affordable deal, however.

Man Utd target Lammens showing huge potential

The Antwerp goalkeeper, compared to his countryman Thibaut Courtois, has showed huge promise with a save percentage of 81.4 per cent last season, a huge improvement on Onana’s return of 68.7 per cent.

He has also shown to be a commanding presence in the air dealing with crosses – an area where United were exposed against Arsenal. Lammens stopped 44 crosses season, more than Alisson Becker, Jordan Pickford and Dean Henderson among others.

The Belgian is also developing his own fearsome reputation in saving penalties, stopping five spot kicks since the start of last season – more than any other goalkeeper in Europe’s top 10 leagues during that period.

Reports in Belgium have claimed Antwerp are hoping to receive a bid in the region of €15-20million (£13-17.3m).
