Manchester United and Newcastle United are in talks to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Randal Kolo Muani, according to reports in France.

United have been frustrated in their search for a new striker this summer with Viktor Gyokeres, who thrived under Ruben Amorim at Sporting CP, preferring to join Arsenal instead.

An approach has also been made to sign Hugo Ekitike but the Eintracht Frankfurt striker, who scored 15 goals in the Bundesliga last season, has agreed to join Liverpool.

Newcastle, meanwhile, are also in the market for a new striker and have explored the possibility of signing Brentford’s Yoane Wissa after losing out in the race to sign Ekitike.

According to FootMercato, United and Newcastle have both identified Kolo Muani as a target and the two Premier League sides have opened discussions over a potential move this summer.

The report adds that United have ‘accelerated’ their interest in Kolo Muani after they were rejected by Ekitike and view the PSG forward as an ‘ideal’ signing to bolster Amorim’s attacking options.

Kolo Muani spent the second half of last season on loan at Juventus, scoring 10 goals in 22 appearances.

Juve are keen to sign the France international on a permanent deal but have yet to reach an agreement with PSG.

The Champions League holders are open to selling Kolo Muani this summer but are demanding a €40 million (£34.6m) transfer fee for the 26-year-old.

PSG signed Kolo Muani from Frankfurt for €75m (£64.2m) plus €15m (£12.2m) in add-ons two years ago.
