Manchester United have been handed a boost in their bid to sign Aurelien Tchouameni as Real Madrid are now open to a ‘major sale’ in midfield this summer, according to reports in Spain.

United have already agreed a deal to sign Brazil international Ederson for £35 million from Atalanta, however, Michael Carrick is keen to add another midfielder to his squad ahead of the new season.

Talks have already begun over a possible deal for Mateus Fernandes, although United are unwilling to meet West Ham’s £80 million valuation.

United also have Tchouameni on their midfield shortlist for the summer transfer window, however, it was initially considered to be a difficult move as Madrid had given no indication that they are prepared to sell.

However, AS reports that Madrid’s hierarchy have eased their stance and they are now open to making a ‘significant sale’ in midfield this summer.

The report adds that Tchouameni, who played in France’s 3-1 win over Senegal at the World Cup on Tuesday, Eduardo Camavinga and Federico Valverde are three players who Madrid could offload before the start of the new season.

Madrid are open to a sale in order to finance Jose Mourinho’s request for the club to sign a new box-to-box midfielder.

Mateus Fernandes and Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez are both liked by Mourinho and Madrid are now in talks over a move for one of those options.

Madrid have already significantly bolstered Mourinho’s squad with the signings of Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva and Ibrahima Konate.

Inter right-back Denzel Dumfries is also set to move to Madrid after the club agreed to pay his €20 million (£17.3m) release clause.
