Mavericks’ Jason Kidd Drops Blunt Reaction to Mark Cuban Having Seller’s Remorse

After former Dallas Mavericks majority owner Mark Cuban expressed regret in selling the franchise to the Adelson family, coach Jason Kidd delivered a blunt response on Tuesday.

In an appearance on the Instersections podcast, Cuban told hosts Tom Leppert and Kyle Waldrep that he doesn’t regret selling the majority of the Mavericks. He would have felt better if he had sold it to a different buyer, who would not have approved the Luka Doncic trade.

Cuban remained critical of Nico Harrison’s decision to send Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers while also mentioning Kidd.

“That doesn’t justify it for our coach and our general manager to stand up and trade our best player,” Cuban said.

The Mavs’ fanbase was slowly moving on from the Doncic trade before Cuban brought it up again. The team hasn’t had the best campaign, but they have a bright young star in Cooper Flagg.

Kidd Delivers Blunt Message to Cuban

Speaking to The Dallas Morning News before the Mavericks took on the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday, Kidd seemed to have had enough of Cuban’s seller’s remorse. He urged everyone to move on from the Doncic trade and focus on the future of the franchise.

“When are we going to move on?” Kidd said. “We have to move forward. We’re focused on the present and the future, and we’ve got an incredible opportunity to build.”

The coach added that he trusts Patrick Dumont and the Adelsons to remain cordial with Cuban because it’s what’s best for the Mavericks. He also has nothing but gratitude for Cuban, who brought him back to Dallas late in his career en route to winning a title in 2011.

“Out of respect to Cuban, he helped me and my family,” Kidd said. “We won a championship together. The two owners will figure it out. I truly believe that we have to focus on the present and the future. We’ve got a great opportunity.”

The Mavericks are not making the playoffs this season and are unlikely to reach 30 wins for the first time since the 2017-18 campaign.

Kidd Not on Hot Seat Ranking

CBS Sports’ Sam Quinn released his latest hot seat ranking for head coaches heading into the end of the regular season. Quinn listed the eight coaches likely to be replaced or fired sooner rather than later.

Atop the list was Orlando Magic coach Jamahl Mosley, followed by Doug Christie of the Sacramento Kings and Brian Keefe of the Washington Wizards. Other coaches who made the top eight were Doc Rivers, Nick Nurse, Ime Udoka, James Borrego and Tiago Splitter.

Kidd was mentioned at the start of the rankings, but he’s assumed to be safe since the Mavericks are just starting their rebuild around Flagg. He also just signed a multi-year extension in October, as reported by ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.
