During the Las Vegas Raiders‘ loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, defensive Maxx Crosby let his frustration show when he shoved quarterback Justin Herbert to the ground following a big play. Crosby was called for a flag, but upon replay, it looked like Herbert exaggerated how hard the defensive end shoved him.
Herbert came out and said there were no hard feelings, but Crosby doesn’t seem as relaxed about the situation. He finally addressed the shove and threw some shade at Herbert for flopping.
“They’re going to get special treatment when it comes to that type of stuff,” Crosby said on “The Rush” podcast. “If it was a lineman and he flopped like that, they probably wouldn’t call it, you know what I mean? If you’re going to talk (expletive), talk (expletive). … I’m running away, and I hear him. There’s nobody around, he’s screaming in my ear, like on purpose. And of course, yeah, I’m pissed off, and I gave him a little love tap, and he flopped like crazy.”
While Crosby didn’t love the flopping, he still has a lot of respect for the veteran quarterback.
“He did a good job,” Crosby said of Herbert. “I shouldn’t have even reacted, in general, so that’s on me. But I respect him.”
Crosby Made Sure to Hash Things Out
After Crosby was flagged for the incident, he went to Herbert and wanted to hash things out. He explained what went down in that situation.
“I walked up to him, I’m like, ‘Come on bro, you’re better than that,’” Crosby said on the “Let’s Go!” podcast. “He was just kind of not looking at me and then I forced him, I’m like, ‘No, dap me up. I’m like, don’t be doing that (expletive).’ I was like, ‘You’re gonna talk your (expletive) to me, come talk (expletive) to me.’ Because I know him. I respect him. I have a ton of respect for Justin. He is a hell of a player. He is a good dude. I know how he is. So he was in the moment and screaming in my ear and I’m like, ‘What the (expletive)?’ You know what I mean? I turned around, I’m like, alright, and then he had a great little sell job on the fall. So it is what it is. It’s a part of the game. It’s a mental part of the game. I gotta be smarter though, ultimately, and not react that way.”
Raiders Far Behind in the AFC West
The Raiders were supposed to compete in the AFC West this year, but it’s clear that they are easily the worst team in the division. The worst part is that all three of the other teams have younger starting quarterbacks.
The Raiders are a long way away from being able to compete with the Chargers, Denver Broncos or Kansas City Chiefs. That’s likely why Crosby was so frustrated. The Broncos and Chargers successfully rebuilt before the Raiders had a chance to be relevant in the division. Now it’s going to be a long time before they can be competitive again.
