Memphis Grizzlies Get Another Bad Ja Morant Update

This season continues to be one to forget for the Memphis Grizzlies.

This season has been a house of horrors for Ja Morant. He has been struggling off-and-on with injuries again. He was suspended for a game for conduct detrimental to the team, as well. When he is on the court, Morant’s effort has been questioned.

Now, the Grizzlies will get some time without Morant on the court after he was injured in a game against the Cavaliers. Memphis will be without him for at least the next two weeks.

Memphis Grizzlies Will Be Without Ja Morant At Least Two Weeks

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Memphis will be without Morant for at least two weeks. He will be re-evaluated in two weeks after suffering a Grade 1 calf strain. Memphis will have to find another point guard to take his spot.

Morant’s numbers are down across the board from a year ago. He’s averaging career lows in shooting percentage, 3-point percentage, rebounds, and minutes. His scoring average is the second-lowest of his career, with only his rookie season being worse.

The Grizzlies have been much better without Morant on the floor. His net rating is -6.9, which is by far the worst of his career. Currently, the Grizzlies sit 12th in the Western Conference standings. New head coach Tuomas Iisalo has had a lot of criticism directed his way for Morant’s poor play.

With Morant sidelined, the Grizzlies will likely move Kentavious Caldwell-Pope into the starting lineup. They will need someone who can handle the ball and make some outside shots, something Morant has failed to do at a high level.

The Grizzlies Rumored to Explore Ja Morant Trades

With how this season has started, every NBA pundit has made up fake Morant trades. Morant no longer seems happy in Memphis. It would make sense for them to trade him and rebuild around Jaren Jackson Jr. and whichever rookie they draft.

Right now, the Grizzlies are holding onto Morant. Any possible trade would not happen until he is healthy. The best-case scenario is that Morant comes back healthy and motivated in a couple of weeks. Iisalo will work on getting Morant to be more effective offensively when he does return.
