Mets Get Good News in Pursuit of Cody Bellinger

The New York Mets are a team on a mission right now. After a disappointing 2025 season that saw them miss the playoffs, it is no secret that the Mets are looking to strengthen their roster and bounce back in a big way during the 2026 campaign.

The Mets have already made a handful of additions this offseason that certainly have the potential to benefit them. Among the Mets’ newcomers so far this winter are Devon Williams, Marcus Semien, and Jorge Polanco. Yet, with the Mets aiming to turn things around next season, they should not be done just yet.

One major free agent whom the Mets have been connected to all offseason is Cody Bellinger. It is not surprising in the slightest, as it is clear that the Mets could use another impactful hitter in their lineup, and Bellinger certainly fits that description. His stats from the 2025 season effectively demonstrate that, as he had 29 home runs, 98 RBIs, and a .272 batting average in 152 games with the New York Yankees.

Now, the Mets have gotten some encouraging news on the possibility of them winning the Bellinger sweepstakes.

Cody Bellinger Predicted to Sign With New York Mets

In a recent article for MLB.com, Andrew Simon picked teams for each of the top 14 remaining free agents. For Bellinger, Simon predicted that the Mets would be the lucky club that would sign the nine-year veteran.

“It’s not hard to see Bellinger heading back to the Yankees or even returning to the Dodgers. But his particular set of skills feels like an ideal match for a Mets roster that has shed three cornerstones in Pete Alonso, Jeff McNeil and Brandon Nimmo. Bellinger would give New York coverage at three positions where they now have some question marks: center field, left field and first base. He would also add another strong bat to the lineup while helping the Mets’ goal of fortifying a defense that was decidedly below average in 2025,” Simon wrote.

As Simon noted, Bellinger’s versatility would certainly make him a nice pickup for the Mets. It is never a bad thing to have an impactful player who can play multiple positions, and signing Bellinger would give them a star who can do just that.

Ultimately, with the Mets needing another star, a player like Bellinger would make a lot of sense for them to bring in. As a result, it is completely understandable that Simon sees the Mets as a good fit for Bellinger.

The Mets Are Not the Only Team in on Bellinger

While the Mets have been linked to Bellinger throughout this winter, it is important to note that they are not the only team interested in signing him. Given how well Bellinger played for the Yankees last season, it is no secret that they want to bring him back. The Los Angeles Dodgers have also been linked to Bellinger.

Both the Yankees and Dodgers are teams Bellinger has played for, so there is certainly some tough competition for the Mets in the sweepstakes. It will be interesting to see if the Mets end up being the team that signs Bellinger from here.
