Mets Trade Proposal Lands 2-Time All-Star and World Series Hero After Jesse Winker News

The injuries have started to pile up for the New York Mets, and it’s been an issue for much of the year. For a Mets team looking to win it all, the last thing the organization wants to deal with is all the injuries they have.

While it’s unfortunate, it’s better for that to happen now instead of after the trade deadline. The Mets understand they’ll have an opportunity to improve in a few weeks, and had these injuries not happened, they likely wouldn’t be in that great of a spot because they’d go in with a different mindset.

The Trade Idea

When searching for what the New York Mets could do, some believe that Adolis Garcia of the Texas Rangers will be available.

Garcia, who was a World Series hero just a few years ago when the Rangers won it all, would be a great addition for the Mets.

Sports Illustrated recently proposed a one-for-one swap for the right-handed slugger, adding that they desperately need outfield reinforcements. With Jesse Winker going down now on Thursday, and heading back to New York for an MRI, trading for a player like Garcia makes even more sense.

New York Mets Receive:

Texas Rangers Receive:

RHP Anthony Nunez

“The Mets desperately need outfield reinforcements beyond Soto and Brandon Nimmo. Taylor’s defense is stellar, but his bat is ice cold. Siri, once healthy, doesn’t offer much more at the plate. García, even in a down year, brings 30-homer potential and the kind of spark that could supercharge the lineup.

“Slotting him into the everyday lineup would allow Jeff McNeil to move back to the infield, giving the Mets more flexibility. It could also create a clearer path for Ronny Mauricio at third base and enable Mark Vientos to lock down DH duties, should he start to return to last season’s form,” they wrote.

Winker Injury Report

It was reported by Anthony DiComo of MLB.com that the New York Mets outfielder and designated hitter will be headed to New York for an MRI. It’s unfortunate that this happened after Winker just returned, but it gives the Mets even more of a reason to go out and make a deal.

“Sounds like Jesse Winker could be headed to the IL. His back ‘locked up,’ per Carlos Mendoza, and he’s heading to New York for testing,” he wrote.

If the Mets don’t make a trade at the deadline to bring in an outfielder like Garcia, they could look for internal options.

When searching for who that could be, Sports Illustrated named Drew Gilbert as that player.

“An IL stint would mean that the Mets have to add another player on the roster to cover Winker’s latest absence. While the safe move would be to promote Jared Young from Triple-A Syracuse, the bold choice would be to tap Drew Gilbert to make his major league debut.

“After a slow start to the season, Gilbert has been on a heater for Syracuse in July, batting .320 with three home runs, nine RBI, and an outstanding 1.134 OPS in 25 at-bats. Gilbert has been showing more pop of late, with five of his 11 home runs coming since June 28th,” they wrote.

Gilbert would be fun, but the Mets need more than a youngster with no experience in the show.
