Miami HC Mario Cristobal Spotted at High School Game During Bye Week

The Miami Hurricanes are at No. 2 in the latest Associated Press top 25 poll with a 5-0 record entering their bye week.

Miami has signature wins over Notre Dame, Florida, and Florida State and has an easy path the rest of the way with no teams ranked in their remaining schedule as of Week 7.

Georgia transfer QB Carson Beck has thrown for 1,213 yards with 11 touchdowns and three interceptions, and Miami DL Rueben Bain Jr. is in the Heisman Trophy conversation early on.

With Miami on bye, head coach Mario Cristobal is wasting no time thinking about the future.

The Hurricanes’ head coach was spotted recruiting players at the game between Royal Palm Beach High School and West Boca Raton High School.

Mario Cristobal Recruiting In The Local Ranks

Miami has already landed a commitment from Class of 2026 four-star running back Javian Mallory, although he is not playing on Friday night due to an ankle injury.

Miami is also heavily in the mix for Class of 2027 DL Jamar Thompson, who plays at West Boca Raton High School and has offers from Miami, Alabama, Nebraska and others.

Thompson was offered by Miami in March, and he has put on a show so far in his junior season.

In Week 4, Thompson had six tackles, three sacks, three tackles for loss and a forced fumble.

He also posted a video to his X page showcasing his skills in a recent game for West Boca Raton.

West Boca Raton High School is just a one-hour drive from the University of Miami, so Cristobal is using his bye week to make a run and Thompson, the talented defensive lineman, while also keeping an eye on others in the game.

West Boca Raton entered with a 5-1 record, and they had a 19-0 lead after the first quarter.

Miami RB Commit Has Strong Praise For Mario Cristobal

Even though Mallory was not suiting up on Friday night for West Boca Raton, the senior running back is excited to be headed to the Hurricanes.

After he committed in March, he spoke highly of the program and Cristobal, via Chad Simmons of Rivals.

“Coach Cristobal is bringing back the old Miami culture and taking the program to the next level,” Mallory said. “Keeping all the South Florida talent home and building around us. The entire program is bought in and has the same vision coach Cristobal has, and that is bringing a National Championship back to Miami.”

Mallory even said Miami was his top option for a “long time.”

“Miami has been my No. 1 school for a very long time,” Mallory said, via Chad Simmons. “I knew for sure in December or early January they were the one. It hit after signing day, and when they were able to come see us earlier this year 100%.”

Miami has 24 hard commits for the Class of 2026, and 14 of those are from the state of Florida, so Cristobal is working hard to bring the local talent to the program.

With Miami off to a strong start, that helps the recruits think about playing for Cristobal with the program on the rise.
