Miami Heat Get Positive Injury News on Pelle Larsson

Miami Heat guard Pelle Larsson has been a spark plug all season, but his injury luck continues to be poor.

Just three games after missing the five previous games with a left ankle injury, Larsson rolled his right ankle late during the Heat’s 147-123 win over the Denver Nuggets on December 29.

He finished the game with 3 points on 1-5 shooting and 2 rebounds in 15 minutes.

Larsson wasn’t able to return to the game, but Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel reported positive injury news about the second-year player.

“As of now, there are no plans for an MRI on Pelle Larsson’s ankle sprain,” Winderman said.

The Heat have two days of rest before travelling on the road to face the No.1 seed Detroit Pistons. Larsson is listed as a game-time decision.

In the post-game press conference, Head Coach Erik Spoelstra was unsure about Larsson’s exact timetable.

“It’s a shame that Pelle (Larsson) twisted his ankle,” Spoelstra said. “We’ll see how he feels tomorrow.”

The Miami Heat Needs Pelle Larsson’s Production

Pelle Larsson

The Miami Heat have been a completely different team when Pelle Larsson is on the floor this season.

In the last eight games Larsson has started, the Heat are 7-1. When he plays more than 26 minutes, the Heat are 11-3.

When Larsson plays at all, the Heat are 17-10, which would be third in the Eastern Conference based on winning percentage. When he doesn’t play, the Heat are 1-5, which would be last in the Eastern Conference based on winning percentage.

Erik Spoelstra talked about the impact Larsson and the bench unit have when they come into the game.

“They (Larsson’s lineup) really created some separation in the second quarter, then pushed it to a 20-point lead at the end of the third and beginning of the fourth,” Spoelstra said. “We definitely want to build on that.”

In Larsson’s first two games after returning from a left ankle sprain, he finished with 21 points and 16 points.

As Pelle Larsson continues to make an impact, positive comparisons will continue to grow.

On the Numbers on the Board podcast, Larsson was referred to as “the Christian Braun of the Eastern Conference.”

While Larsson’s injury doesn’t appear to be serious, any extended amount of time he has to miss would spell trouble for the Heat.

The Miami Heat’s Poor Injury Luck Continues

Tyler Herro

GettyMiami Heat guard Tyler Herro has had his season derailed by injuries.

The Miami Heat have dealt with injuries to impactful players all season, even without Pelle Larsson’s ankle injury.

All-Star guard Tyler Herro has only played in six games this season, sandwiched between surgery on his left foot and a right toe contusion.

Herro is without a timetable for his return at this point.

All-Star center Bam Adebayo has also missed time this season, playing in only 25 of the Heat’s 33 games.

Key role players such as Nikola Jovic and, of course, Pelle Larsson, have missed substantial time this season as well.

The Heat have used 12 different starting lineups this season as players have come in and out of the injury report.

The Heat’s primary starting lineup of Herro, Adebayo, Davion Mitchell, Andrew Wiggins and Norman Powell has only played in four games together.
