During the cage match, Haendel managed to get Groten into a reverse triangle choke.

Groten was forced to try and tap out as the choke intensified, but the referee missed the tap before Groten lost consciousness during the SEVEN second choke.

Haendel then wrenched the German’s limp elbow, looking up in disbelief that the fight was carrying on.

The ref finally waved off the fight when he noticed Groten was unconscious before performing a Brazilian-leg-lift.

Following the scary ordeal, Groten has revealed himself to be in high spirits.

He revealed he had avoided damage or a break to the bone but had suffered a dislocated elbow.

Taking to his Instagram page, Groten slammed the ref for their delay before declaring he would win in a rematch.

He said: “So that sucked. Got choked out and my elbow dislocated. No bone damage, more info to come.

“I’m in the hand of the best medical professionals with @sportsdoccgn and @pi.physio.

“Thanks to the crew of @versus.events for caring and all reaching out individually. Ref failed terribly though.

“There’s absolute no blame on my opponent @rene_haen you were better yesterday.

“I’ll crush you next time we compete. That’s a promise. I’ll be back. Better.”

Despite the defeat, Groten walked away with silver from the competition after prior wins over Jurriën Van Marle and Abdul-Vakhid Berzishchev.
