According to multiple sources, the Buffalo Bills are interested in dealing wide receiver Curtis Samuel. Samuel will be entering year two of a three-year, $24 million contract signed during the 2024 free agency cycle.
Though the team has not officially put the 29-year-old Brooklyn native on the chopping block, many are beginning to speculate that his underwhelming impact on the Super Bowl hopeful offense last season, matched with a handful of receiver-needy organizations getting desperate, spells the end of his time in Western New York.
“The Athletic reported Wednesday morning that the New York Jets, Minnesota Vikings and San Francisco 49ers are all calling teams about receiver help,” wrote SI’s Richie Whitt. “Surely, general manager Brandon Beane’s phone is ringing.”
The recent trade news emerging from the San Francisco 49ers camp might make them less of a player in the Samuel market. The NFC foe announced just hours ago that they have reached an agreement with the defending AFC Champion Kansas City Chiefs, who send young receiver Skyy Moore to the Golden City.
Samuel Lands Late Round Pick In Trade Scenario
Ryan Talbot of the Syracuse news posted his official 53-man prediction this afternoon. He believes the team will be busy before the Tuesday deadline, trading a pair of returners.
The first of which is backup offensive lineman Ryan Van Denmark, who Talbot says should bring in a day three pick in compensation. The second is receiver Curtis Samuel.
“Multiple teams are looking for help at wide receiver, which could benefit the Bills in unloading Curtis Samuel’s contract,” Talbot pitches. “In the trade scenario, Buffalo sends the receiver and a future fifth-round pick to a receiver-needy team in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick. Buffalo doesn’t care about the potential return as they get Samuel’s contract off the books and are left with a minimal dead cap hit.”
This opens up another spot in the six-seat wide receiver room. He believes only Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, and Joshua Palmer have a guaranteed spot on the roster.
Newcomer Elijah Moore replaces Samuel and joins two special teams centric teammates, Tyrell shavers and K.J. Hamler in the final prediction.
“Shavers makes our latest projection as he’s been the most consistent of the receivers remaining and has stepped up his game on special teams,” Talbot hypothesizes. “Moore remains for now and Hamler beats out Shenault for the final spot and returner jobs.”
Gabe Davis Makes Free Agent Visit
Gabe Davis, the longtime Bills receiver who caught 27 touchdowns with Buffalo in just four seasons, finds himself team-less heading into the 2025 season.
He has never quite looked the same since leaving the team in 2024, but Pro Football Talk’s Michael David Smith says a reunion could be coming.
“Davis is planning to visit the Bills tomorrow after a follow-up with the Steelers today, according to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette,” Smith writes. “The Steelers had medical concerns about Davis after a previous visit. He was cut after just one year of the three-year contract he signed in 2024 with the Jaguars after a meniscus injury in his left knee cut his first season in Jacksonville short.”
