The Kansas City Chiefs have a lot of momentum heading into Monday Night Football against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Co. are fresh off their best game of the season last week, crushing the Baltimore Ravens 37-20. Mahomes completed 25-of-37 passes for 270 yards, four touchdowns, and zero interceptions.
Kansas City’s offense got a major boost from wide receiver Xavier Worthy‘s return. After going down in Week 1 with a dislocated shoulder, Worthy recorded five receptions for 83 yards along with two carries for 38 yards against Baltimore.
Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy couldn’t overstate the importance of having Worthy back. “Just the ability to bring back that energy that maybe was missing a little bit, which is natural,” Nagy told reporters on Oct. 3.
“But the confidence, the energy. He was happy when he just ran out on the field in warmups. You could just see the big smile. He felt like a little kid being able to get out there and do what he loves. And that’s contagious. It’s contagious to everybody.”
Therefore, the Worthy’s sudden downgrade in status after the team landed in Jacksonville immediately turns heads. The Chiefs announced on Sunday evening, “Worthy (shoulder/ankle) is now questionable for Monday Night’s game.”
While this could be a huge blow to Kansas City’s offense ahead of their primetime showdown at EverBank Stadium, a new report on Worthy’s injury shed more light on his status.
Xavier Worthy’s ‘Questionable’ Status Is More of a Precaution, Per Report

NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe posted on Sunday, “I’m told Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy ankle was a little swollen getting off the plane today. Chiefs put him on injury report as questionable as a precaution for now & will see how he feels tomorrow.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, “Leg and foot swelling during air travel is common. It’s usually harmless. The most likely reason for it is sitting for a long time without moving during a flight.”
Worthy’s speed makes him a huge threat, so any sort of ankle discomfort is a concern. While it’s unclear how or when the 2024 first-round pick tweaked his ankle, it doesn’t seem to be a serious injury. “Worthy was a full practice participant all week,” Wolfe noted.
Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy Is Expected To Play a Huge Role Against The Jaguars
Amid Rashee Rice’s six-game suspension, Worthy remains Mahomes’ clear-cut No. 1 wide receiver. Nagy revealed his game plan for Worthy before facing the Jaguars.
“You get him some early touches, first play of the game, even though it went for 1 yard plus a penalty; he got hit. And I think that’s important. It went on the rest of the game. And we want to keep that going,” Nagy said.
Mahomes also credited Worthy for upgrading the entire offense. “He’s just so explosive,” the three-time Super Bowl MVP told reporters.
“When you get the football in his hands, it makes defenses have to adjust. When they adjust, it’s like he gets so much attention on him that other guys can make plays happen. Just having him out there, not just for his physical ability but just the morale of the room, I thought it was huge.”
